water feature

Amanda and I put in a little water feature in our yard the other day. I wanted to do a full-fledged pond, but that would have required a lot of work and it would have also taken a lot of time and would have required taking out a lot of plants and greenery (not ok with Amanda). It is still very cool.

It is basically a 15 gallon tank at the bottom with smaller vessel above it. There is a pump that circulates the water and burbles. The water just trickles down the rocks right now. I may get a fountain statuary thing eventually, but that might take a while to find one I like.

Amanda also acquired many more plants for the front yard. She is unsure now about the color of the rocks as they don’t really match the rest of our 100 square foot yard, so we will probably replace them at some point.

After I cycle the water a few times, we will probably get a few plants and a couple of comets. They should be fine from the weather, but I dunno about wandering predatory felines.

After a long time, we finally got enough reward points to get enough gifts cards (and a 20% off coupon) to get Amanda’s much sought after item: the Dyson Animal DC 17. Yes, a vacuum cleaner. I must admit, it is impressive.

Here is Amanda torturing our lower staircase with the new Animal creature:

That stretchy tube-thing is quite cool, too.

worm factory

I got my new worm factory today.

wormy factory

The top three trays are empty. Good thing I got it, because my improvised stackable bins were getting a little skanky. Probably because stuff was a little too wet, but I knew my double box setup was having drainage issues. I should get getting my 2000 worm shipment in next week, which is good because I am sure they will love the softened up stuff remaining. It was probably 40% food, 40% worm castings, and 20% shredded newspaper.

I transfered quite a lot of worms to the new bin. A lot more than I started with. Neat-o!
