random stuff I forgot to mention plus current recap

// 2007.08.11 21:09 //

A couple of weeks ago (01 AUG) I bicycled down to the farmer’s market and saw alpacas! Amanda was at UW and was going to come down to see them, but the alpacas left the market early. Amanda was sad. The alpacas only come once a year.
We went to a combined birthday celebration for Kelly and Mandy last Friday (03 AUG). We met up with them at Jillian’s, a place in South Lake Union. It was basically a big restaurant/bar with a lot of pool tables, ping pong tables, and video games. It was fun. The food was pretty bad, though. Amanda and I only got some snacks… nachos and fries. They were not that good. Amanda started feeling really ill, so we left early.
For current stuff:
10 AUG 2007 : FRIDAY
I picked Amanda up from Harborview, and she wanted to go out to eat in preparation for her call day on Saturday. We drove by Tamarind Tree, but it was already packed as expected, but we then decided to go to Vegan Garden nearby. We got some fried eggroll appetizers, “cashew gluten”, tofu fried rice, and pho. The cashew gluten was actually very good. The pho was ok, but not to Amanda’s liking. I kinda like the place (we have been there before), but the service is on the poor side. They just don’t have enough server’s (one, and sometimes another person helps from the back).
We watched Casino Royale afterwards. I thought it was very entertaining. It it probably the only James Bond movie that I have actually liked.
11 AUG 2007 : SATURDAY
Today, Amanda was on call, so I took her to work in the morning. She thought she would never be able to come home, but a laboring patient delivered immediately and there was nothing else for her to do. So I picked her up a couple hours later, and we went to the Essential Bakery Cafe in Madison Valley to get Amanda something to eat. I actually stopped at BK on my way back home to indulge in some delicious hash browns, so I was not all that hungry. Afterwards, we stopped by City People’s Garden store to get some seeds, a hook to hang up Amanda’s bird feeder that she made during diabetes camp, and some bird seed.
I put up the bird feeder once we got back home while Amanda rested. I talked to Mandy, Bryan, and Billy out back for a while, and then Amanda and I checked out the P-Patch. I stayed, planted another row of lettuce, weeded, and did garden stuff. Amanda went back home after borrowing a shovel from the P-Patch shed; she worked on planting in the front yard various things she got from Lowe’s a few days ago
After the bout of gardening, I came home and worked on sanding down the kitchen counters. It was more annoying than anticipated. I had considered getting a chemical stripped to take the sticky crap that had built up, but I decided to avoid the nastiness and just try to sand it off. And it is coming off, albeit slowly and with a fight. I will have to finish tomorrow.
We had a dinner of bread, cheese, olive oil, and honey. And box wine for me. The box wine is barely palatable now; it has been open for weeks.
Amanda decided to go in to work to do a circumcision and then try to come back home. She isn’t back home yet, though. I am going to do more cleaning.

pickles

// 2007.08.10 10:50 //

We had dinner with Eve and Karl last night. It was good to see them, as we had not in a while. They had been caught up in house stuff and out-of-town guests; Karl’s brother had a “second” wedding here in Seattle (his official wedding was in Las Vegas with the King earlier).
Amanda isn’t feeling as nauseous recently, though she still feels “weird”. She sent me out for dill pickles the other night… a very stereotypical thing, eh?

gallery

// 2007.08.07 13:30 //

I have been steadily adding stuff to our gallery for a while. I have been working backwards from the present, and it is updated now for all of 2006 and 2007. I believe there are over 4000 pictures there now; the stats displayed on the page are incorrect due to the way I have the site set up.
I had pictures posted to the older version of the gallery to around February 2005, so I have almost caught up in that sense. I still have to do a lot of meta organizing work and replace some of the older pictures as they were uploaded at a worse quality and resolution.
I might start scanning some of my non-digital photos in for a change. I have tons of pictures from, say, our trips to the Canadian Rockies that I have not seen in a while. They aren’t even in physical albums; I think they are in a box upstairs.
I think I have some pictures from highschool, too. I should do those first for yuks.

abbreviated recap

// 2007.08.07 07:50 //

Saturday we bicycled up to I90 (which was closed to vehicular traffic) with Mandy and Bryan to watch the Blue Angels. It was fun. A bit cloudy though. We went to Columbia City Cinema to watch the Bourne Ultimatum. I found it very entertaining, but not a good as the second movie.
Sunday, Amanda went grocery shopping with Mandy. I went for a long urban hike with Larry around the Rainier Valley, Beacon Hill, and Mount Baker. On our way back home, we had a surreal 28 Days Later experience walking along I90 East towards Lake Washington. The interstate was very quiet with no cars to be seen. There were no zombies, though.
We watched the second Blue Angels show when we got to the bridge. Sunday’s show was much more involved than the previous day’s; I assume the very clear day played a major role.
Amanda took off for Seward Park when Larry and I returned home. She did some more swimming, running, and bicycling in preparation for her upcoming triathlon.
We watched the Fountain later that evening. It was alright. I did not find the main character very sympathetic.
Yesterday we went to Chipotle in the University District after I picked up Amanda from work. She had a sucky day and the burrito bowl cheered her up.

blue angels

// 2007.08.02 10:35 //

The Blue Angels are roaring over our house. Rather closely actually. They are practicing for their upcoming shows over the weekend. I admit I like the Blue Angels, in spite of their representation of military might and rather frivolous use of fossil fuels. I suppose that comes with growing up in a military town.
