saturday morning

// 2007.09.01 13:17 //

Amanda woke up very refreshed this morning. Twelve plus hours of sleep will do that. She wanted to eat bfast at Geraldine’s Counter, so we walked down to Columbia City. Bfast was good. Dontella was our waitress. I heard her tell someone else that the Wellington across the street would be closing. That would be unfortunate. Their catfish is very very good.
We walked over to Pet Elegance after bfast to get piglet a new collar and temporary tag. There were many doggies there lining up to use the self serve dog washing facilities. I guess cats could use them, too, but I do not think that likely.
On the way back home we stopped at the Post Office. Amanda complained about the lines, but then she spent the time waiting talking knitting with the woman in front of us. Amanda sent off a baby sweater thing for her coworker (who actually lives maybe a mile away). We also got some first class and international (i.e. 90 cents) stamps.
Back home we put piglet’s new collar on her and she immediately jetted out the door to maraud.
I reimplemented Amanda’s old theme on her weblog as she decided she did not want to look for another one. She says she will really write more in it now.
Amanda now wants to go to Ikea. I am unsure why. Might be pretty crazy there.

stealth piglet

The wily one managed to remove her collar sometime today/yesterday. She is very pleased with herself and now is quite the silent predator. Unfortunately for her, I am not inclined to let her outside again to maraud until I get a replacement tag. She will be a sad one then.

doctor visit

// 2007.08.31 12:24 //

I am back from an appointment at Group Health. I think my PCP, Dr. Thomas Horst, was wearing the exact same kinda tropical shirt he was wearing when I saw him last year. He seems pretty cool to me; when we first moved here, I originally choose him because his web profile said that he enjoys “playing with his two strange cats and one goofy dog” or something like that. Amanda actually sees another person there, who is also nice, and while it may be advantageous for us to have the same PCP, I don’t think I will switch.
I went in to finally start dealing with my sleep apnea. It been one of those things where I have no idea if my life would be azmatonishingly better if something could be done about it. Amanda thinks that I would be 1000% more productive and curing cancer and whatnot if I got better sleep rather than being my normal relaxed and perhaps slightly spacey self. As I expected, I have to make another appointment with Group Health’s Sleep Medicine people.
Dr. Horst did not seem all that alarmed that my blood pressure seemed high (at least to me)… 138/85 or something like that. My BP and pulse always are jacked up when I see a medical professional, and he did say that it probably would be lower if he took it again. I should probably check it at home more. I was happy that my heart rate was 60, though.
I should probably make a more general continuing health appointment to check cholesterol and more long term stuff and since I am like old and all. I forgot to ask him about that as it would have been easy for me to get blood drawn and whatever since I was already there.
Amanda is at clinic right now after her night shift. She only has the morning shift, so I will be picking her up soon. Piglet is out marauding as usual.

new cellphones

// 2007.08.30 21:28 //

Amanda and I got new cellphones the other day as well. Her’s finally crapped out way early one morning while she was answering a page, so we went downtown the next day to get new ones. We stayed with Verizon. While I like their network and their service in general, they do not have a great selection of phones and they lock them down with their own UI and firmware so that you can’t do anything with them. I have to see if there is an easy way to hack my phone now that I have a new one.
It took a long time to get the phones, activate them, do all the paper/computer work, blah blah blah, but I expected that. We drove downtown to save time, but we foolishly decided to try parking in the Westlake Center as that is where the closest Verizon place is. That was a mistake as we then coughed up $9 for parking.
I forgot to get some pictures off my old phone before the new one was activated, and now I don’t think there is an easy way to do so. Unfortunate, as there was a picture of Christy at her birthday party that I wanted to keep. Ah, well.
