amanda is disinclined to acquiesce to their request

// 2007.10.16 20:20 //

Amanda was at a Tully’s in the University District for a latte (pumpkin?) before her Spanish class, and they asked her: “Is that a Starbucks mug?”. Yes, yes it was. They offered to trade her a brand spankin’ new Tully’s mug for her old one, but she declined. She liked her old mug better! Way to crush their spirits, eh?

the weekend past

// 2007.10.16 15:56 //

Last Saturday, Amanda wanted to eat brunch outside the house, so we headed out to Geraldine’s Counter. As usual, there were scads of people around, but the service was very good which is not usual. They definitely are set up to handle the weekend crowds, as opposed to how erratic they are at other times.
We ran into our old real estate agent Jim. He and his partner were taking advantage of the pleasant weather to renovate a house they recently acquired for rental income. We had parked right outside their house, but we had not realized they were the guys stripping siding off the place. It was cool to see him, and he bought our brunch for us! What a great guy. I heartily recommend him to anyone buying or selling real estate in Seattle.
Back home, we did a lot of gardening. I picked most of the green tomatoes and then pulled up all the plants and did a lot of weeding and thinning of the kale. I put all the organic debris in the back of the plot and covered the pile up with burlap.
We also picked a bunch of carrots to make room for garlicks and shallots which we then planted.
At the “kids” plot we finally picked all the pumpkins and put them on the picnic tables for whomever wanted them. We did take some back home with us that had been reserved for various people. I ran into Kelly B. and she came by for a couple for her and Bill.
On Sunday, we had brunch with at Portage Bay Cafe with Eve, Karl, Casey, and Jeff (?), one of Eve’s former coworkers in Auburn. The food was much better than the one other time I had been there, but the ambiance was much worse because we were their “overflow room” which was basically like a conference room in a hotel. A cheap one.
Regardless, brunch was fun. We tried to go to Weaving Works on the way back home, but they were not open yet, and we did not want to kill time in the University District elsewhere. So we went home and did…. um, I don’t know.
We eventually went back up north to another knitting place: Acorn Street Shop. We got a lot of yarn for garments for the future progeny and stuff for a “kitty pi” for our current little one.
Actually, I now remember Amanda went grocery shopping with Mandy after brunch.

fresh and clean piglet

// 2007.10.14 13:29 //

I picked up the little one today, and oddly enough she smelled like a dryer sheet. I guess I know now how she is keeping warm outside. It is unclear where she is going because all the nearby exhaust vents are very high up on the sides of the houses. She is a clever one, though.

sleep disorders

// 2007.10.12 14:23 //

Since my first sleep disorder meeting, my theoretical sleep apnea problems are no longer very theoretical. A couple of weeks ago I had a home sleep test where I hooked myself up to this thing that monitors breathing, breathing air flow, heart rate, oxygen levels, and probably some other things, and the results were, yes, I do have a problem. I never did get a full report, although they did say I had 15+ full apnea episodes an hour (one episode is when you are completely not breathing for at least ten seconds). They also measure when you merely have “reduced” airflow and oxygen levels, but I don’t know how many of those events I had, but for treatment purposes the full episodes sufficient enough to be concerned.
Next Tuesday, I should be getting a couple of CPAP machines: one will be temporarily used to figure out what the “real” one will be set at. Maybe then life will be azmatonishingly better and I will be back on track to winning the Nobel Prize. Or not. Amanda thinks it more likely that I will simply become even less pliable to her wishes. Heh.

last sunday

// 2007.10.10 20:51 //

I had a moment of enlightenment and remembered what happened last Sunday… not much exciting. Amanda was on call, so I took her to work in the morning. I later picked her up a few hours later for lunch (Amanda had two deliveries), and we went to Chipotle in the University District. We were hopeful that she could go home, but the ER paged her about someone whom they probably would have to keep in the hospital to rule out a MI. So Amanda was definitely not going to be able to leave.
Amanda grumped about having to keep someone in the hospital who was “probably” fine “just to keep from getting sued”, but I pointed out that perhaps if one is really worried about getting sued and actually losing, maybe it is a Good Idea(tm) on many levels to rule out a heart attack.
Anyways, I had a boring day of chores and errands and life admin tasks.
