sad fishie day

// 2007.10.30 18:06 //

I went out to feed the fish in our water feature this morning, and I noticed the pump was askew and the water was all cloudy. I thought that was odd, but it was not until later that I found out the two comet goldfish were completely gone. Sad! While the piglet is the obvious suspect, I do not think she is the culprit, as I have seen other more lean and hungry cats wandering about.
Unhappiness!

Amanda and Susan doubted the allure of the new IKEA cat bed. But look here!

“Don’t listen to old men!”
… also heard at IKEA right after my previously heard words of wisdom. The woman and kid seemed to be having a big discussion, and I was tempted to lurk about to hear more. That would have freaked them out.

susan visit summary

// 2007.10.23 11:24 //

Susan was visiting from Nashville for the past few days.

  • We ate dinner at Olive Garden at Southcenter after picking Susan up from the airport last Thursday as Amanda was hungry. I reminded her again about how she wanted to never eat at Olive Garden again, but she said that only applied to the ones in Buffalo.
  • We tried to eat at the Cheesecake Factory next door since there was a longish wait at the Olive Garden, but it was closed for staff training! It certainly looked full from the outside.
  • Olive Garden totally screwed up the waiting list, so many people went ahead of us by mistake. They were very apologetic, though, and said that we should speak with the manager. We did not care all that much.
  • All of us went to the gym Friday morning.
  • Susan went to Tacoma on Friday to visit a friend from Ohio who was down there visiting someone.
  • We were going to make dinner on Friday, but Amanda needed immediate food again after work, so we ate dinner at Tamarind Tree. Susan had apparently never had Vietnamese cuisine.
  • Susan ordered some sort of noodle bowl, and when it came we could not identify everything in it (which is always fun). One item was shrimp paste wrapped around sugar cane. There was one mysterious piece of thing that the waiter said: “I don’t know what that is; let me take it back and ask.”
  • We watched Hot Fuzz on Friday and Saturday. I actually watched it Friday because Amanda and Susan fell asleep the first time.
  • Amanda went grocery shopping with Mandy on Saturday.
  • We went to IKEA as Susan wanted to get some things. We got another coffee press because both of our old ones had broken. I got piglet a neat cat bed/piece of furniture. She does not appreciate it yet, but she will.
  • We saw Jeff and Kristine with their kid in the parking lot of a baby superstore. We did not go ourselves.
  • I got a pair of dress shoes at Nordstrom Rack while Amanda and Susan looked at baby stuff in Kohl’s.
  • Amanda and Susan spent much time over the weekend discussing online personals and setting up a profile for Susan.
  • Amanda went to a local job fair/networking thing in Bellevue on Sunday. Susan and I killed time downtown before picking her up. Susan got a couple of shirts. We ate lunch. Amanda didn’t because she was networking. Well, she had a cookie.
  • We went to a knitting store in West Seattle. Amanda bought more yarn for more projects. And a couple more knitting needles to replace some lost ones. I said that since the old needles were guaranteed for life, she should tell them they dematerialized and she wanted replacements.
  • Amanda and Susan made a lot of snickerdoodle cookies. I ate a lot of them. They supplied the labor and love, and I supplied the appetite. And love, too.
  • We watched the Host: a Korean horror/thriller/comedy movie. I though it was interesting. Amanda and Susan… maybe not so much.
  • All of us went to Amanda’s doctor’s appointment on Monday morning. Amanda got a flu shot for work purposes.
  • We had bfast nearby at Coastal Kitchen. It was nice which was good because they tend to be erratic. Their spicy hashbrowns were too greasy even for me really. I ate them anyway because I am like that.
  • We dropped Amanda off at work, and Susan and I went back home for a bit. She entertained me with online personal ads from Tennessee.
  • I dropped Susan off at the airport around noon. There was a mega traffic jam leaving the airport… good thing that was after I dropped her off.

sage advice from a parent

// 2007.10.20 17:55 //

In the IKEA bathroom today, I heard this quote between a guy and his kid:
“Pull your underwear up! Pull your underwear up now! I’m not trying to be a hard ass here. I’m trying to help you. You’ll understand when you’re older.”
