Moscow Mule

2 oz Skyy vodka
1 oz Rose’s lime juice
4 oz Verner’s

combined in glass with ice and stirred.

I’ve had the Skyy for a long time, probably since I’ve been in Seattle. So, eight+ years? It’s usually been in the freezer, and vodka doesn’t go bad, does it? It had been opened before. Everything else is of normal age and had been refrigerated. I could have added a lime garnish, but I did not.

It was good, although not as gingery as I wanted. Perhaps less lime juice and/or more ale. Or a different ale or actual ginger beer. It was pretty strong, but that did not hit me until perhaps 30 minutes later. It also made me feel a little alcoholic, so perhaps something funky happened to the vodka. Something to keep track of next time I use the spirit.

2014 APR 06 : SUNDAY

The rest of the family went to Geraldine’s for bfast while I left to workout. I actually dropped by Geraldine’s before heading to the gym to drop off some medicinals for ARK.

After bfast, the family went to the Science Center for some special UW thing. ARK was also meeting a coworker with her son there. I also headed up there after a shower and a return trip to the gym to get my MEC checked sweater that I left there. It is an old old friend that I do not wish to lose.

After the science center, we had lunch at the armory, where I had my usual falafel pita and fries at Kabob. J ate a lot of my fries as well as my falafel patties.

J and I napped back home while ARK and LK went to his Mandarin class and got haircuts and groceries. The stylist (who as usual asked when I was going to come back in) noticed a couple of lice nits on his hair!!!! There was an outbreak at his school a couple of weeks ago, but we thought we escaped unscathed. ARK got the treatment and we treated his hair and whatnot. And we have to wash everything and dispose of our brushes, etc. etc. etc. Although we can sterilize them, eh, I am not going to bother.

ARK does not have lice, as the stylist looked. J looks to be OK as well. ARK looked at my hair, but there is a lot of it. If I get them, I probably will just shave it all off. Would be easier.

workout 20140406 – Team row, wall ball, lunges

// 2014.04.07 13:57 // ,

Two person teams for time:
1000m row
75x partner wall ball
75x jumping lunge
750m row
50x partner wall ball
50x jumping lunge
500m row
25x partner wall ball
25x jumping lunge

only one person works during row and lunges.

24:57 with R

R found it harder than I, so his cardio was the limiting factor. I definitely felt tired afterwards, though. We were the slowest team; the faster team finished many minutes before us. Partner wall balls are surprisingly hard; hard in the sense that catching the ball from the other person is harder than one might think. One sees this fluffy medicine ball type thing come down and thinks “oh, this will be easy to catch” and it is always a surprise with how heavy it is. When one does it alone, I guess one has more of a feel for the weight.

saturday recap

// 2014.04.05 21:42 //

2014 APR 05 : SATURDAY

I went to the gym at 8am. ARK came at nine with the kiddies. I look J to Tin Umbrella to get a badly needed caffeine shot for myself. We then returned to the gym to wait for ARK to finish her workout. The kiddies were kinda crazy; I tried to burn off their energy by making them do burpees. LK did ten before he got bored. J did them erratically. She was not big on the jumping up and clapping part.

After exercise, ARK went with the kiddies and her mother to Costco. I went to the townhouse to do landlord things. The main thing was to clean out the dryer vent. Unfortunately, when I managed to get up in to attic, I found out that the vent had become undone and the dryer lint had been spewing out all over the attic. That can’t be good. After wrestling about trying to get the stuff back together, I gave up and went to Lowes for additional supplies. Basically, I had problems getting everything back together because it was obviously assembled in a different order and it was no longer physically impossible to reassemble. I was also overheating and had breathed in too much fiberglass and lint. I had hoped to find a different angled connector or possibly use a flexible tube, but that didn’t happen. I ended up getting another angled connector, some metal tape to reseal everything assuming I got everything back together, and some tools to clean out the lint from the piping. And some masks so that I would not breathe in crap and get cancer.

I finally was able to get the vent stuff back together and sealed it. I still have to actually clean it out, but that will wait for another day. I also have to fix the mount straps that were holding everything up; they have come undone for some reason which perhaps is why everything fell apart. And all that lint in the attic should be removed. But, yes, another day.

I also fixed the townhouse doorbell. That was easy.

We had a date night again. ARK’s mother took J while our neighbor S watched LK… just like our last date night. And just like our last date night, we went to Luc. Their four course menu du jour was pretty much the same as last time (which some minor alterations), so we ordered off their normal menu. I got a Luc’s Mule (vodka, ginger ale, lime, cassis, plus other stuff) cause it was a date night and why not booze it up. Speaking of booze, we got a carafe of their house red (which supposedly is specially made for them). It was good. We got a cheese plate plus these fried potato puffy things that were served with a mayo/harissa sauce. I’m not sure how they made them (they looked like thin-walled fried potato torpedoes), but they were awesome. ARK got a gnocchi thing while I got moules frites which is basically mussels with french fries. It was very good, and something I would not normally get. ARK got a s’more ice cream for dessert while I got salted caramel ice cream with caramel sauce on top.

The food was good and still a good bargain relatively. Unfortunately, we have exhausted their veggie options, so we can’t go back until they change their menu again.

workout 20140405 – OHS/gymnastics tabata

// 2014.04.05 15:42 // , ,

Overhead Squat 6×3
125# max

8 round tabata (20s/10s):
handstands
hollow body rock
superhero rock

I was sharing a rack with Robert, so I did not really push the weight since there was only 20 minutes to do the lifts. 135# is my max anyway, although I felt I could have gotten past that considering how 125# felt.

The tabatas were OK. I have not been able to hold handstands very long recently. I suck at the rocks, but I guess I have to do them to get better.

It was not all that taxing a workout though otherwise.
