illness

// 2009.01.16 12:04 //

It has been another week of sickness. Amanda caught some GI bug on Monday. We originally thought it was food poisoning (from some Indian food… Amanda will probably not eat it again for years now), but then Lonan Kai got it the next day. Then I got it the day after. We are all on the mend now, though I have not really eaten or drunk anything for the past two days.
One of our other friends also has a GI illness, so perhaps we caught some virus at Mike’s birthday party. Hard to say, as either Lonan Kai’s daycare or Amanda’s workplace are the obvious vectors.
In other news, Lonan Kai spent much of the last night sleepwalking, or perhaps he would have been sleepwalking had he been able to walk. I spent a lot of time trying to get him to sleep, but then just placed him in his crib. He proceeded to sleep for a few seconds, get up/crawl around/try to climb out of the crib/cry, and then collapse and sleep again. Over and over. He would really wake up if I left his room. so I sat around watching him for a while. I did eventually leave without him waking up.

I learned the other day that prunes are dried plums. Ya, I never knew.

I received this great new year’s card from my dentist:

Inside it says:
NEW YEAR TO THE RESCUE!
MAKE IT A GREAT NEW YEAR!

I think its pretty cool, but it seems a little odd to be sending a card with a scantily clad woman (with tiger cub!) to your clients. Perhaps he wants a certain type of clientele… um, like me I guess.

His holiday card last year was great, too. It just said “GOOD TIMES RIGHT NOW”. No scantily clad women, though.

A toddler called me a “babydaddy” at Lonan Kai’s daycare the other day… funny

Amanda found a stash of potato chips I had for emergencies. Although I was not really hiding them from her.

Mike had his 40th birthday party at Flying Squirrel on Saturday. Lonan Kai was cheerful for a while, but all the noise and commotion started freaking him out. We then left early for their house where the party was to move afterwards. We wanted to try to put Lonan Kai to bed at their place, but he proved to be too excited by the new place and new noises. We did get a couple of songs of Rock Band in before we left.

The evening proved to totally wig LK out, and he did not want to go to sleep at home. He did eventually, though.

Today (Sunday) we ventured to the Eastside and had lunch at Chipotle; Amanda had a gift card from the holidays. On the way back home we stopped at Pier One to get some replacement fragrance/air freshener oils… mainly for use near Piglet’s litter boxes.

Lonan Kai is now asleep. Amanda is working/charting. Who knows what the evening holds? Okay probably an early bedtime for Lonan Kai and perhaps some movie watching for us.

Last week was the usual. Non usual events were that Amanda was sick with some GI problem picked up during our trip to Chicago. Lonan Kai and I might have picked up some of it, too, but not as bad as she. She did take one day off work but still managed to deliver three babies on New Years.
We had brunch with Eve and Karl last Sunday at Geraldine’s Counter. It was great to see them as always. Karl has secured future employment, so he will escape the ruins of WAMU‘s collapse.
After brunch and a Lonan Kai nap we went over the Mike and Ann’s for a playdate with Connor. Or maybe a playdate for the adults. Mike had gotten Rock Band over the holidays so we played a bit of that. He had so much fun he forgot that he had a soccer game to go to.
It is cold and rainy here in Seattle, but not as cold as it was over the holidays. Snow and avalanches have closed all the mountain passes to the east and flooding has closed the roads to the south, so the PNW is completely cut off from the world. Well, the airports are still open and there is the ocean. Crazy, really. I read about people trying to get to Portland for weddings or whatever (a mere three hours south down I5) and that wasn’t going to happen.
I should go to the gym today as I have not been lifting in weeks.

home again

We are back from our trip to Chicago. It was good to see the relatives. Hopefully I will recap the trip soon before I forget everything. I did not take many pictures because I am lame.
Lonan Kai tumped over and bloodied his mouth and clothes at school yesterday. He was fine, though. The school of course had to fill out paperwork and whatnot anyway.
Armando did come back and looked none the worse for wear after being out in the unseasonable cold for the past ten days or so. He is out marauding again now.
Piglet wants to go out, too, but I am keeping her inside.
In spite of the uncertain economic times, we went out to eat to El Sombrero yesterday. It is still the holidays after all, and we had eaten most of the food in the house before we left on our trip back East. Amanda was happy.
Amanda is back at work and will be on call tonight and tomorrow. I hope we have an uneventful New Years.
