first day of may

// 2010.05.01 22:52 // ,

We headed out early to have bfast at Geraldine’s Counter… perhaps our third week in a row? Bfast was good. Afterwards, Amanda and the Kai dropped by AC-MC’s place for an impromtu playdate while I went home for a work party at the P-Patch.

It was the first work party of the year. Mostly we did stuff like rebuilding decrepit beds and preparing other beds for new gardeners. I had fun. Amanda and the Kai came by before the little one’s lunch and nap; he helped by spreading leveling out the dirt in one of the newly rebuilt plots. A little anyway. He also gave Ian a few worms as presents.

Amanda napped with the Kai as she has an overnight shift. I diddled about until the Kai woke up, whereupon I fed him some fried rice and Tofurky before heading out to the Arboretum. Amanda stayed at home an continued sleeping.

They were having a bamboo festival thing there, but it is closing up when we got there. All the azaleas were blooming and looked quite nice. The Kai was not impressed, though, and wanted to go home and have an ice cream cone. Being the parent, I forced him to enjoy nature for a while before returning home.

Amanda made dinner (pasta with arugula and tomatoes and roasted red peppers) while I took the Kai to Safeway to get a bread. I also picked up some strawberries because they were cheap. Back home I entertained that Kai while Amanda continued cooking, or rather I watched up ride his little bicycle around.

After dinner there was a bit of music before the Kai had to go to bed. Amanda took the opportunity to get more sleep.

Unfortunately, she had at least three people in her queue, so she is now off working.
Note: I completely could not remember the name of the greens in the pasta tonight (until the end of the entry). I am totally getting senile.

Amanda had the day off. I took the Kai to school then Amanda and I caught up on stuff. Amanda talked to JB&JR about various houses, and we met up to look at a few. One in Mount Baker seemed actually seemed nice… a tudor with four bedrooms 1.5 baths, not a nasty basement, hardwood floors, “character”. It minuses were it is out of our price range and the floors are not level and it does need some work. JB thought negotiation could prove fruitful, so we might put an offer on it.

We had splurged and bought lunch with a gift card from my mom in Columbia City at the Spice Room. Afterwards, we did more life admin stuff. I went to the P-Patch to put in our tomatoes while Amanda retrieved the Kai and when to Greenlake for a walk with CY and Baby Y.

Back home I whipped up a dinner of asparagus and mushrooms and tomatoes and angel hair pasta. The AC-MC Clan dropped by and we had a fun dinner. Of course, bedtime came early and the fun for the little ones was over by 7:30.
The night there was the usual cleaning. Amanda is already asleep, and I will be so shortly.

Sunday

We exited the house quickly this morning to have bfast at Geraldine’s Counter right when it opened before it got packed (which it invariably does on the weekends). Our waiter was a guy I knew from my old gym that I have not gone to in ages… well, I can’t now since I cancelled the membership a while ago. Bfast was good. Amanda had her usual avocado and pepperjack omelette, I had a sweet corn, herb, and havarti scramble thing, and the Kai had a couple of pancakes. Or rather, he had a bit of pancake and various samples of our food. I also got a basket of fries because I was really really hungry for some reason, perhaps because I did not eat a lot the day before.

After lunch, we stopped back home for a bit. I finally met our new neighbor (who is renting our old neighbor’s place). She was bummed out because her friend’s truck had been broken into the night before… her first night in the place. “Welcome to the neighborhood!” She apparently works at Swedish doing some medical education something-or-other. I heard that part secondhand from Amanda as I was inside getting stuff when she was chatting with the neighbors.

We then headed off to West Seattle to hang out with the EP-KK Clan. We had not seem them in couple of months. Now that we both have kids it seems even harder to get together as everyone’s schedule is compressed dealing with the kiddies. And since Amanda works a lot of weekends and we have only one car (so that I can’t go anywhere) even the weekends are booked up. Unlike the AC-MC clan who live very close to us and can drop by for a quick visit, it is a bit more involved for us to get to each other’s homes. And of course Baby K is still practically a newborn.

But this weekend Amanda was not working, and it was good to see them (after a quick look at a house on Beacon Hill and getting briefly trapped in SODO trying to get on the West Seattle Bridge). They did seemed tired, KK more so. EP is probably more used to being outrageously tired as a doctor. They had to do a lot of house projects; they were in process of replacing their front steps as the old one had been getting too rotted out. And they had the outside painted, but in the process of painting they discovered they had a lot of rotting siding and whatnot. Ug. EP said next time they will get a new house.

Baby K at three months seemed rather agreeable.

We walked about the West Seattle Farmers Market,and then sat in Coffee to a Tea for a while, although I spent a lot of time watching the Kai in the kid’s play area the place had. At the market the Kai hiked around a tree in a big planted area and acted like he was on a grand adventure. He clearly would’ve hiked around for a long long time, but we had other things to do.

After leaving the coffee place we headed back to the market to actually get stuff. I got some asparagus and some tomato starts for our garden.

We bid farewell to the EP-KK clan and headed back home quickly as the Kai was overdue for a nap. We almost got nailed by a spinning metal thingamabob that had flown off an RV, but Amanda successfully executed various evasive maneuvers.

While the Kai was sleeping, I caught up on finances while Amanda spaced out playing games on my phone. Later I went to the P-Patch to prepare the plot for the tomatoes. I hope to get them in the ground in a couple of days if the weather cooperates. Amanda brought Lonan later after his nap.

Then if was off to University Village so that Amanda could look for a new shirt/blouse that would go with her suit as she is going to a conference in Vancouver on Tuesday. We met up with the AC-MC Clan there. Amanda, AC, and LC went off on the clothing hunt while MC, CC, Lonan, and I walked about and killed time… mainly at the playground and playing on the various sculptures in the area.

Amanda was denied in the clothing hunt, so we regrouped and had dinner at Blue C Sushi. We got there at the perfect time and scored a booth with no wait.

After dinner, there was more clothing hunting and more playground time, but Amanda was again denied. CC fell off a planter thing, but seemed none the worse for wear after an examination and lot of screaming.

LK wanted cupcakes because he is a decadent boy. Fortunately for us, the cupcake place was closed by the time we headed out. Since there was no cupcakes, we headed back to the AC-MC residence for ice cream. After dessert and a bath for the kiddies we headed back home.

Amanda took a shower while I put Lonan down for bed. She then did some administrative things and made some calls and then headed up to bed as she has a 6am-10pm shift tomorrow. I did some cleaning and cooked up a stir fry for LK’s lunch tomorrow. They are having chicken stir fry, and nowadays I try to match whatever meat thing they are serving. Lonan had been getting sad when he had something drastically different than the other kids on meat days.

Time for a bit more cleaning and then bed.

computer down

// 2010.03.30 10:14 //

My desktop/server computer failed the other day, so I have yet to recap the end of the vancouver trip and the weekend. Maybe later today, though. I don’t have enough spare parts to diagnose the exact problem (I believe it was a heat/age failure), so I may just get another cheap box to replace it. I do most stuff on my notebook nowadays anyway.
The gallery is dead at the moment, too, as it was hosted on that system. As was a lot of other stuff. I need to redirect all that.
