Rock laid her first eggs yesterday. Two in one day! Although maybe she had laid more somewhere in the yard; I could not find any.

Today I dug a few post holes for the new elevated henhouse. It was slow going in hard baked soil with many rocks.

At LK’s school there was a dance party at the end of the day. Amanda and I went as well. They had pizza, but it was all meat based since they could not get any veggie pizza at the nearby store. LK did not care because as he has declared: “I’m a meat-eater!”

2011 AUG 19 : FRIDAY
PH had sent me a link to the new Conan movie a few days previous. I had known someone had been “rebooting” the series (a popular term nowadays), but I did not know when it was going to be released. Since Amanda had no desire to see it, I went downtown to see it on its opening day.

edit (2012 JAN 20): this draft entry was never finished

I tried to fix various things on the fence today, punted the problems, and later did more staining.
Two more eggs from the chickens! We are up to twenty. Rock still is not laying.

I went up to Portage Bay Grange to get some diatomaceous earth to help keep the bugs and mites down in the henhouse. I also picked up a bale of hay. They also started carrying Scratch and Peck feed, which is good.

After I picked up the Kai, we met Amanda at the Columbia City Farmer’s Market. As usual, the Kai demanded “Bubble Gum Ice Cream”. We picked up a few things and relaxed in the Park with LK’s former classmate August and family whom we met walking about. August likes Bubble Gum Ice Cream as well.

SK left for home this morning (she arrived last Friday); she dropped by early to say goodbye. It was good to see her. We perhaps had perhaps a low-key family visit:

and undoubtedly other things I am forgetting at the moment.

eggs

We are up to fourteen eggs! I got two today. So far Star has been the more reliable egg layer; I would have thought Buff would have been better.
Buff’s eggs are also smaller than Star’s, even thought Buff is larger.

Buff’s egg is on the left; Star’s is on the right.

grafitti

// 2011.08.14 11:08 //

Our front retaining wall and stairs sometimes gets tagged by nefarious souls, and the other day I tried removing the paint. The pressure washer was ineffective and actually made things worse because it cleaned all the dirt and moss and whatnot off the wall and made the graffiti stand out more.
So then I got some textured spray paint that apparently makes surfaces look like “stone” at Home Depot (btw one apparently must be over 18 to buy spraypaint). It actually worked very well in covering up the paint. The sections I painted over are lighter/whiter than the rest of the wall, but I imagine that weathering will eventually even out the colors.

I win!
