Wednesday, both LK and I had medical appointments. Amanda and his old PCP, Dr. Carol Stanley, has unfortunately for us retired from seeing patients (though not from working), so we saw her replacement who had just started at Group Health. Amanda had applied for that position, and I think she probably would have gotten it, but Amanda wanted to work for a community health center-type place and Group Health’s patient population does not fit that profile.
As it turns out, my PCP, Dr. Thomas Horst, is also retiring, so I decided to go ahead and switch to Dr. Megan Reitz so that we all had the same physician. She was very nice; she is five years out of residency I believe.
Anyway, LK was there for his four month checkup and vaccinations. He was fine. We talked about sleep stuff, diet, and whether or not he had a lazy eye (not apparent at this time). He is almost 16.5 pounds and 26 inches. He was then left for his shots.
I talked about weaning myself off the meds I had been on since my a-fib episode. Which I will be doing. We also talked about my blood pressure, which had been high before I started doing CPAP therapy. I thought it had gone down again before my a-fib episode, but now it is at its lowest ever, undoubtedly due to the drugs I have been taking. Hopefully it will stay down in the coming months, although since LK has been around I have not been able to use my CPAP machine regularly.
I got out in time to see LK get his shots. He screamed. Oops. I did not have to hold him down this time at least. He took it a lot better this time, and recovered very quickly.
I also got a DTaP/Tdap booster because it is now recommended for adults to get pertussis boosters if they are around kids or somesuch. And practically no one carries pertussis only vaccines, so I got everything. I needed another tetanus booster soon anyway. I barely felt the shot, but a few hours later my shoulder hurt like hell. It calmed down, though.
We had our parenting meeting in the evening. It was remarkable in that it was the only one that I had been present for the entire meeting as usually we either left early or I was trying to calm him down. Two other kids had gotten their four month shots, too, and one got a very high fever, which made us wary.
LK was very twitchy during the evening, and as it turned out he has a slight fever as well. He is sleeping now, though.
I went to the gym very early this morning (before 6) since I had gotten up at ten to five to attend to LK. Amanda is at work. Hopefully LK will sleep a long time today.
