After the snowpacalypse, the floods have started. The area in Bothell where I work had a “mandatory evacuation”, so I got out of there. I was telling Amanda that “evacuation” was too strong a word as implies situations like getting lifted off a roof via helicopter or somesuch.
It was raining pretty hard this morning when I drove Amanda to some adolescent detention center for work. I had dropped her off outside the complex where we thought she could enter, but I then decided to follow her as I anticipated her not being able to get in and exploding with frustration. That wouldn’t be good. When I caught up with her on another side of the place, I did note her gripping her coffee extremely tightly and steam coming out of her ears, but I picked her up again and all was well. We later found a better place for entry.
Driving back from Bothell was rather adventurous, though. I had never seen the traction control light in the car come on as much as it did today. Worked a bit more at home before venturing out for more prescription cat food for the little one and picking up Amanda, who had moved on to Harborview.
Apparently, the new townhouses beside us had completely flooded out (they don’t have landscaping yet, and I think they are in the process of hooking up the sewer lines) and dumped a bunch of debris down 35th on our side which then plugged up our sewer between all the townhouses. Fortunately, some neighbors were here and took care of it. I guess our builder came by to help us with an industrial strength vacuum and pump to clear the drain. I wonder if he will charge the other developer.
Amanda is taking a nap now, but she has to go to yet another adolescent clinic up on Capital Hill near where we used to live. I will work some more then as well. Theoretically, she will be going to a clinic with Group Health in Bothell, which is right beside my new employer, but I dunno if the state of emergency will be lifted yet. Maybe we will both stay home with the piglet.
