01 SEP 2007 : SATURDAY
Amanda spent the morning after bfast looking at cribs of all things (Saturday morning recapped here). She decided she wanted to go to Ikea and Babies “R” Us. I was unsure of the latter, but Ikea was alright with me.
Ikea was swarmed with people as always. Amanda was satisfied with her crib shopping, and we escaped without actually buying anything. We skipped the Babies “R” Us trip.
We took MLK Way on the way back home rather than I5 or Rainier to see the progress of the light rail construction. They have most of the street level stuff done, and it looks pretty nice. I imagine all the merchants whose businesses have failed over the past two years due to construction might have a different opinion.
We had dinner at Eve and Karl’s house. Two of Karl’s old friends were visiting from out of town (Anna? and Evan). They busted out their new grill, which is rather nice really. Such a thing would take up too much of our yard, though.
02 SEP 2007 : SUNDAY
We went on a hike on the Iron Goat Trail. It took a couple of hours to get there. I called up Larry to see if he wanted to go, but he called us back too late and had “homework”… Amanda said: “isn’t that really just ‘work’?” The hike was interesting. It was pretty flat and had many informative plaques. We passed by various old train encampments, tunnels, and random artifacts. I mused on how long trash had to stick around before it became an artifact. Amanda was kinda tired; her parasite is slowing her down.
Mandy came over that evening and made chocolate chip and toffee cookies. She had been in Canada for a softball tournament.
03 SEP 2007 : MONDAY
Amanda went grocery shopping with Mandy in the morning. We did a lot of cleaning when she got back.
We had dinner at Larry’s house… a traditional Labor Day cookout? His son Jake just left for with freshman year at college, and Adlai was starting school the next day. It suddenly occurred to me that I had met his dog Twister as a puppy, and now he is quite the older doggie. Larry made a blackened salmon thing that was very very good.
I watched the Maltese Falcon when we got back home. Amanda watched a bit, but then fell asleep.
04 SEP 2007 : TUESDAY
We went off to Group Health in the morning for a routine OB appointment. Amanda’s PCP ordered a cholesterol check for me as I forgot to have my doctor do so when I saw him last week. The blood draw took no time; woohoo for high blood pressure.
We had a later bfast at the Essential Bakery in Madison Valley. I got a strawberry claw thing and Amanda got a crepe. We went to City People’s Garden store afterwards; Amanda wanted to look for leek seeds, and I wanted price their bird seed.
There were a lot of police cars hanging out in their parking lot and across the street. It was very mysterious. The workers were saying stuff like, “You’re taking up valuable parking, I could be selling gobs of cyclamens!” Not to the police, but to themselves. I don’t know why they did just ask the police what they were doing.
We ended up not getting anything as they were reorging their seed area, and I was thinking bird seed would be cheaper elsewhere like Lowes.
Unfortunately, we stopped by Lowe’s on the way back home and there was no bird seed to be found.
After getting back home for an hour, I had to go back to Group Health for my initial sleep disorder meeting which was scheduled for all afternoon. There was basically a group presentation… in a nice, comfortable, dark room that is perfect for people with sleep problems… and then we met with the health providers individually. The upshot of all that is that I will be getting contacted soon by a third party health group to do some home sleep testing. I need to call to verify how much our insurance will be covering.
My blood pressure was more than borderline high in the afternoon, which seems odd after I had been basically sitting and not doing much before a long time before it was taken. It seems that my recent highish BP readings are not a fluke. Uh, oh. Maybe if I have treatable sleep apnea it will automagically go down. I wrote my PCP to see if I should go in and talk about it or wait until I see what happens with the sleep testing.
Amanda and I went to the gym after I got back from my second trip to Group Health. I was weak. But fitness is a journey.
Amanda went in to do a delivery in the evening, and she was hopeful it would not take long. She did not get back until 2am, though.
