weekend

We are fitfully going to the gym again. I am slowly starting up a regular lifting schedule. Slowly is the operative word here as I had not done much since we moved almost a year ago. I can still feel the back stuff I did last Saturday… feel in the sense that it still hurts to lift up my arms. Actually, my back does not really hurt that much, but some very small part of my triceps that is completely not used in everyday life is killing me.
On Saturday, we also went downtown to do a bit of shopping. We mainly wanted to look for a replacement tea pot as I broke the spout of our current one, but the place I had originally gotten it from did not have the same color anymore. And the company itself may not make that color anymore, which is unfortunate because I still have the cups that match the original teapot. Amanda had gotten another one in a slightly different shade a few weeks ago, so we will just keep that one. Amanda also wanted to drop by Bed, Bath, and Beyond to check out some things she had seen online, but she was denied. She did pick up some ramekins with a coupon she had found somewhere. She made creme brulee that night. We don’t have a torch, so she caramelized the top under our broiler.
Sunday we spent some time in the garden preparing for our spring planting. I finally pulled the broccoli up. We have a goodly amount of small florets; we could have really developed them, but we have had enough waiting for the broccoli. We also turned and fertilized the soil (organically, as required by the P-Patch rules). In spite of the rain, our plot was not that waterlogged… probably because we had most of the plot planted throughout the winter. Two-thirds of the plot is clear; the remaining third still has some plants growing.
We still have spinach and lettuce that made it through the winter. They had started growing again now that the days are longer and warmer. The onions and scallions still look good, too. And remaining kale plants are very very happy. Unfortunately for the kale at least, they are in the wrong place in the garden now, so we will be eating them in the next couple of weeks.
Klaus, a fellow P-Patcher, was there also turning over his bed and the food bank plot. He did not have anything overwintering, though.
We had dinner at Brasa that night with Eve, Karl, and James(?) a friend of Eve’s from college or high school. Obviously I have forgotten which. We had the special prix fixe dinner for the current 25 for 25 promotion. It was fun, and the dinner was very good. Amanda and I had been there before, and the food was really just as good, albeit smaller portions, and obviously a much better deal when getting three courses for $25.
Today, Amanda had clinic and again is on call. She had been hopeful about getting back home, but after I paged her around 5pm to see what the evening held, she was already on her way to UW to take care of yet another laboring patient (they seem to be everywhere). Hopefully, I’ll be able to pick her up later so that she can sleep at home.
I received my worms in the mail today. Same day service. although it was only sent priority mail, but it was sent from a place right outside Olympia. I dunno if I got 2000 worms, as technically I bought two pounds of worms with two-and-a-half pounds of bedding… the 1000/lb is some rule of thumb I read somewhere. Regardless, I definitely got a lot of worms, and they were quite vigorous. They are in the worm factory now. I will see how thing are over the next week before futzing with them. I may have to aerate some of the layers more by mixing in more bedding. I did see gobs of egg cases in the lower tray, so I may have a worm explosion in another month or so.
