It’s pretty freaky cold here, at least for Seattle. My weather widget says that it is currently 27 degrees, and the forecasts say that it will drop to the teens tonight. After all the snow and icy rain yesterday, all the clouds have left, so we will have a clear and cold evening.
One of our outside faucets had iced up since I neglected to take our hose off, so I cleared it via a hot water bath and verified the water was still running. We don’t separate cutoffs for the outside faucets (there is one in front, too); I guess because the garage is relatively “finished”. B&M actually bought those big insulator things, but I don’t think those are necessary. Besides, the house is new and pretty well insulated and under warranty.
The cold might do a number on the garden, though. I don’t think the onions, carrots, and swiss chard will make it, although the onions and carrots are fine staying in the ground until we eat them. I imagine the spinach and lettuce will be toast, especially since they only managed to get a couple inches high (we planted the second batch a little late). The kale and broccoli and peas (the three that survived) should be alright.
There are a lot of wilted and frozen flowers in our front yard, though. Amanda was sad this morning about that.
