Earlier in the week:
I managed to lock myself out of the house and waited a few hours piglet-like sitting in a chair in the yard waiting for Amanda to return home. I had to buy some tea from the nearby Starbucks because it was freakin cold. Good thing I had some money on me. Piglet stared at me through the sliding glass door and then abandoned me. I need to make dupes of our house keys really soon now.
We went to Urban Vines for their bi-weekly wine tasting. We had a bunch of Austrian wines which were, for the most part, rather tasty. I had avoided Austrian wines before because of the ethylene glycol doping some of their vinyards had been caught doing. It was very instructional, because I learned that many of the wineries now create Alsace-like dry wines because of that scandal (as the aforementioned contaminant made the wines sweeter).
13 OCT 2006 : FRIDAY
I was going to do some minor contract stuff in the morning, but I was finding a bit hard to concentrate due to some evil microbe or virus trying to take over. I researched wireless connection problems instead.
Later in the afternoon, I ran some errands, because that does not take a lot of thought. I ventured to Ikea to get a bunch of inexpensive wine glasses for our wine-and-cheese thing we were going to have over the weekend. As might be expected, the place was mobbed as always. I think one has to spend at least an hour from getting out of your car to returning to it even if one knows exactly what one wants. I think I was there at least an hour-and-a-half, and I knew exactly what I wanted and where it was located.
I also took the opportunity to return a book to Borders: a book on the Oregon Wine country… Amanda thought it was lame. I also got piglet piglet more cat toys because, I don’t know, maybe she implanted that thought in my head.
One of Amanda’s patients was having a complicated delivery, so she decided to go assist that night. I did not think she was going to be back at all, but she returned around 1:30am.
14 OCT 2006 : SATURDAY
I took Amanda to work in clinic in the morning. While she worked, I cleaned up and organized house for our wine-and-cheese thing. I picked her back up around 1:30pm, and we went to Trader Joe’s for supplies. We got practically all of the food and half of the wine there; we got more wine at Safeway (cheap [ yellow tail ] magnums) and at Urban Vines. Amanda also picked up a variety of little sampler cheeses at Metropolitan Market (the only thing we would go there for really).
The party was fun. We went through a lot of wine (and people brought even more). Amanda and I were both a little sick, so we were not as inspired with our preparation as we perhaps normally would be, but that did not seem to matter.
15 OCT 2006 : SUNDAY
Amanda and I were both very sluggish today. Perhaps it was the Alka Seltzer nighttime medicine we took the night before. After a late-ish bfast we both passed out again on the couch.
We ended to going to the Southcenter Mall as Amanda wanted to use a gift certificate at Ann Taylor Loft. We also stopped by Borders to idly look through books. I did see a couple of CIA books I want to eventually pick up. It was a low energy excursion for both of us.
Amanda is working on something upstairs now. I have been doing more after party cleaning and other random household stuff. Hope our sickness is past the halfway point.
