random ramblings

It seems my old standby dinner of black beans and rice has gone by the wayside. I used to eat it all the time, although I usually would alternate it with a pasta dish of some kind.
Now it seems I favor okra and rice. Does this switch have any deeper meaning? Probably not.
I heard on NPR the other day that some parents in South American countries (I forget which) teach their kids to only eat until they are 80% full. The of course, a bit later when your brain catches up with your appetite, you will be full.
I am trying to adopt this rule, but I had limited success tonight as I made a bit too much okra and rice and ate it all anyway because I hate leftovers. Amanda likes the concept of leftovers and saves food, but she does not actually eat the leftovers usually. Funny. I figure I might as well eat it all now rather than let it go to waste.
Obviously some behavior modification is in order on my part. I am usually pretty good at cooking what I will eat; in recent years it has been harder because I am cooking for two people which makes estimation more complex.
OK, enough rambling. I might actually get some sleep tonight.
