another late weekly recap…
Last Saturday, we ate dinner at an Italian place in Eastlake called Serafina. After her visit, my mom had given us a gift of monies before she left and told me “to have a nice dinner.” Rather than doing the prudent thing and save the money for my probable “between jobs” time, we did have a nice dinner.
BTW… Amanda was at a conference during the day, and I worked. It was very rainy like is has been for weeks.
We were fortunate to get in on late notice, but that was aided by the fact we could eat very early. I had read that it had been voted the most romantic restaurant in Seattle before, and I could see how that would be possible. There were quite a few vegetarian options on the menu (or things that could me made vegetarian) and the waitress said they could also “whip something special up”. Whilst waiting for our food, we sipped the dolcetto I ordered and ate much of their yummy bread and yummy flavored olive oil… I could not pin down what herbs they used. We ordered a sampler plate with a variety of things: olives, a veggie tapenade, salad, foccacia. More yumminess. Amanda got a linguini entree with fresh porcinis, cherry tomatoes, and other stuff I am forgetting. Very tasty. I got a grilled salmon with fresh porcinis on wilted spinach with a mushroom madiera sauce. It was pretty freaking awesome. Amanda had a pumpkin cheesecake for dessert while I had these doughnut things with homemade vanilla ice cream and a glass of sparkling Italian white. The actual dessert usually came with a cardamon jelly side instead of the ice cream, but the waitress was pretty not excited about that and suggested various other options (the service was really good btw, so I presumed a significant amount of other people found the jelly nasty or somesuch). The doughnut things were rather good, but the sparkling wine, which was a suggested pairing, did not really do much. However, it probably would have went much better with the cardamon jelly, I imagine.
On the way back home, we stopped at Dave’s apartment. He was out of town, and we needed to stop in a check up on his cats.
Unfortunately, by this time it was apparent I was not feeling well. I can only think that I had a bad mushroom/alcohol reaction, as I felt like I drank 4x more than I actually did. I probably had the equivalent of 3.5 servings of alcohol… not unusual for me really for a dinner. This type of poisoning usually happens with only specific mushrooms, but it can happen with more commerical varieties (and has happened with me before). I guess those fresh porcinis really packed a wallop as I haven’t felt that messed up due to alcohol in quite a while. Amanda was unaffected.
She managed to get me home. She said that I should “just throw up and get it over with” although I did not think that would really help as I felt only slightly nauseous but really really fucked up. So, there was no throwing up and after an unknown amount of time the nausea passed, and only the fucked-up-ness remained. Apparently I later passed out on the floor.
Amanda spent all of this time reading and knitting and watching TV. She eventually woke me up and got me in bed.
OK… enough of that. The dinner was great, though! Thanks, Mom!
Sunday it stopped raining although it was still cloudy. We took advantage of this and walked downtown. We had lunch at the Baguette Box in Capitol Hill on the way. The first order of business was to drop off our library books at the Central Library. We idly browsed around downtown for a while, and then picked up some square pillows for our new bedding. We took the bus back, and, once we got home, it started raining again.
We went back to Dave’s again to feed the cats. They were still very vaporish and refused see us.
The week was all about working as it usually is. Amanda was sick for most of it; two of her fellow R1s apparently were the vectors. Her home focus month is over, and now she is doing night float for OB/GYN, so she works from around 5pm to 7 or 9am.
We had dinner with Eve on Monday… pasta and Target box wine. Yum!
The week finally caught up with me today (Friday) and I passed out at around 4pm. I had not been getting much sleep again. Good thing I got my running and lifting in at noon. I woke up after a few hours and felt as good as new. Amanda is sleeping now though. Her sleep schedule is all messed up, as is mine. Piglet is also very confused, but she sleeps most of the time anyway.
I don’t have all that much work for the weekend, and Amanda will be off… though she does work Sunday night. Hopefully the rain with stop during the day tomorrow!
