i dropped the subaru off to get inspected (as it ran out yesterday), and i presumed that it would fail since my check engine light was on and goes on and off quite a lot. new york’s inspection requirements went waaay up earlier this year for 1996 and later vehicles. previously, i had been quoted some obscene amout ($1400+) by two places that have been proven trustworthy in the past about what it would take to pass inspection, and i had been plotting responses to various scenarios if i decided to just got rid of the subaru. anyways, sparing the gory details, during the actual inspection and 30 mile test diagnostic and emissions test, the light stayed off… even tho it had come on again before the actual inspection for some other (bad) reason. however, that did not matter since they had not started the inspection yet, and they passed me for another year. they were totally surprised. so it just cost $22 for the inspection plus the usual kinda obnoxious diagnostic time. woot. we all agreed it will probably pop on again… like tomorrow.
of course, maybe they luv me and were just doing me a favor.
now i get to take the corolla in because it has issues as well (the not always starting plus unable to lock the doors problems), but hopefully they will be easily fixed, too.
