i have decided the betta fish does not really like me. he only views me as a creature to extort food from. he has gotten very aggressive with me and almosts jumps out of his bowl when i look in. i will stop rewarding such behavior with his “betta bites” food. perhaps his behavior is a sign of affection as he does not do his aggressive display with me, tho maybe that special trick is reserved for other bettas.
