thursday: amanda’s grandmother in texas is very ill, so she went down to texas for the weekend. for some reason that i do not remember right now, she got a flight out of cleveland instead of buffalo; tho i imagine that she did it to travel with her mother. when i got back home to buffalo from ithaca, amanda did a bit of packing and plane ticket researching whilst i talked with lainie and erika who both dropped by. i drove down to wooster with amanda since i thought it very unlikely she would be able to drive the entire way as it was already pretty late. we ended up leaving buffalo about around 10pm. on the way out, we stopped at tim hortons for caffeinated beverages and timbits. amanda asked the person there if she ever gets tired, and the woman replied: “all the time.”
the drive down to wooster was pretty crazy. i had not been getting much sleep in the past few weeks, and thursday morning i had gotten up at 5am with only a couple of hours of sleep the previous night, so the drive ended up being a very surreal experience. we drove through crazy thunderstorms all the way down to wooster. we had joked that the lightening was always in front of us to the right, which perhaps makes sense since that is were the water (lake erie) was.
i think we got in around 230am. amanda’s mom was awake; i think she had gotten some sleep before we arrived. we collapsed pretty quickly, however, since we had to get up at 4am to make their early morning flight to cleveland. in the following couple of hours, a big thunderstorm passed through wooster; crazy lightening, roaring thunder, blustery wind and rain, etc. etc.. i vaguely remember amanda’s mom coming into our room (amanda’s old room which is now a guest room much to amanda’s chagrin) for some reason… probably to close the windows. i don’t think she made it back to sleep.
friday: we got up at around 4am or so. the original plan was for me to drive them to cleveland airport and then drive back to buffalo to work (as i had to get something down before noon), but amanda made me promise not to do so and get a bit more sleep. i was pretty tired, but i have driven when in worse shape (in my wayward youth), and i could always stop if i really was too tired to drive. however, they ended up taking another car that amanda would do something about when she flew back on sunday. tho perhaps it was for the best since i was having trouble carrying on a conversation with amanda’s mom that morning since my thoughts were running like molassas.
i ended up sleeping a couple more hours and got up at 7am and took off for home. the drive was ok, but i almost misjudged by bladder capacity near the end as it took forever forever forever to get to the service area in angola (20 miles from buffalo). i was dying from all the diet code and pepsi and whatnot that i had been liberally consuming. amanda would later encounter the same unfortunate situation on sunday.
i did manage to get some work done at home, but not much really. at around 4pm, i went with karen to the vet. she needed to get her chinchilla checked out, and she (the chinchilla) tolerated the driving much better if someone was holding her and/or her carrier. the vet had two huge lop bunnies for adoption in the waiting area. they were pretty cool and were even litter box trained. i never thought to try that with my old bunny.
after we got back home a bit after five, i ended up passing out until midnight. i managed to stay up a couple of hours doing a bit more work, but fell asleep again for the night.
