friday was one of those days where i did not even leave the apartment. i did not even take the compost out. it was amanda’s last day at her inpatient pediatics rotatation, and theorectically she was on call, but they let her go early. for lunch, she went to just pasta, a restaurant we had been thinking off going to sometime, with her team, but she was not very pleased. she was put off that she got four raviolis for lunch for $8 and that they charged $1.50 extra for coffee and salad. while i do not think the extra charge is all that bad (and it is good if you do not wish coffee or salad), the cost was extreme. she said the food was good, it was just way expensive for pasta, and there was not enough of it.
we had brunch with erika and a friend of hers whose name is escaping me on saturday at solid grounds. he was in school to be a physician’s assistant, but back in oklahoma he had been a mortician for ten years. as one might expect, the three of them yakked a lot about medical stuff. he had a funny story about how some nurse kept calling him late one night and asking when he was going to pick up the body they had, and he said “hold on woman’ i’m just putting my pants on. i was waiting for you to kill another one.”
we then went to galyans to pick up more dumbells for amanda. she now has a very large variety of weights for her lifting activities. what a deal for $0.35 per pound.
it was amanda’s “cheat” day in her body-for-life fitness program, which means she could eat whatever she wanted whenever she wanted today. we eventually went out to dinner with lainie at pizzeria uno, where lainie had many cheat days in the past with her previous boyfriend. perhaps a worthy place to load up on carbs and fats.
when we got back home lainie passed out as she had been on call the previous day/night and did not have a whole lot of sleep.
sunday, lainie had a date with some guy she met months ago at one of those speed dating things. she was going to a play; it apparently was enjoyable, even if most of the other people there were senior citizens.
whilst lainie was on her date, amanda and i headed off to a burger king in tonawanda where john and kristen’s daughter cady was having her thrid birthday party. there were quite a few other kids from her day care as was john and kristen new kid, who was born a couple of weeks ago. the burger king there had one of those big playground places, and we were in a separate room off the play area. it was fun; i had not talked to john and kristen since our wedding last year. i imagine all the kids at fun, too, as burger king’s playground is perhaps an ideal place for three year olds.
john gave me a wireless router that he did not need anymore. i guess eventually i will set it up so that we can cruise the internet wire free in our living room (once we get a wireless network card of course).
after the party, we head out to “the fish place” — a great aquaria store nearby. after checking all the water creatures, we acquired two twenty gallon high tanks and a stand so that we can finally bring up our fish from ithaca (and the goldfish at least need bigger tanks).
once we got home, however, we had to decide where to put the tanks as they would not really fit where we were going to put them. we spent much time moving stuff about in the living room, but eventually we found a pleasing arrangement. perhaps now our living more is more ikea like as we divided up the living room… “thinking cubic” as ikea proclaims. i started preparing the tanks, and will continue doing so today.
lainie came back after her date and did a body-for-life upper body workout whilst i made dinner… a frittata with lots or garlic, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, basil, parsley, and sharp cheddar cheese. slurp. both amanda and lainie were pleased (“it’s a protein!”).
i idly watched the superbowl while preparing dinner, but i really could not get into it. after dinner, amanda and lainie did their leg and ab workout; lainie was doubling up the workouts because her call schedule is mucking up her exercise times. i also did my leg workout (squats, curls, calf raises), and helped amanda and lainie with their form on their squats and deadlifts; there are no mirrors in the basement, so there is no way to check yourself.
now, its another workday. still have to finish some performance reviews…
