friday: amanda and i had dinner with erika at romeo and juliet’s. i tried to illegally park in another restaurant’s parking lot next to our destination, but they had a guy monitoring the lot for interlopers like us. on the other hand, amanda said that the lot was for both places, so erika and i are blameless.
we had a game of scrabble after dinner, but erika crushed us. she obviously has some skills honed from her childhood; her father did not let her play games that did not require serious thinking (she told us of pining for hungry hungry hippo when she was a little lass). we watched ronin and stripes, but erika fell asleep during ronin. stripes was alright, but not as good as i remembered it. then again, i had not seen in over 15 years probably.
saturday: we had our traditional brunch at solid grounds with erika and dave. amanda is between rotations (she starts pediatrics next week), so she has the weekend off. we probably did not do a whole lot (exciting that is, we did do various cleaning and whatnot) until lainie came over that evening. she was the doctor on call for the mercy flight helicopter. most of her day was spent waiting about, but in the evening she had to fly out somewhere south of buffalo to handle a accident victim; a car of young adults (unknown amounts) had gotten into an accident due to excessive speed on the icy roads (allegedly, as we did not really know the details). fortunately, one of the patients she took care of looks to pull through, but it does not look good for the others (one was doa at the pickup site and the others were taken elsewhere because they needed more immediate care than even the helicopter could provide.
alright, even absent most of the gory details, that recap was pretty non-cheerful. but, as you know, doctors rarely deal with the healthy.
anyways, so lainie came over and worked on responding to her personal ad stuff. apparently, before amanda and i helped rework her ad, she had not been getting any nibbles, but now she’s getting all kinds of responses. woot.
we also watched angel heart. amanda had been resisting watching it (we actually own it), but she admitted it was not really as scary as she thought it would be. lainie didn’t make it through the movie and passed out maybe a third of the way through.
sunday: after sleeping in, we had a leasurely waffle bfast with lainie, and then duty called her away… she had her last day running the clinic at ralph wilson stadium for a buffalo bills game. amanda spent the day plotting a new regime of cleaning and dinner-making. now that she has finished surgery and ob/gyn, her schedule should be more predictable (and for the next few weeks she will actually be working 8-5… shocking). she plotted our dinner schedule for the next week, and later we made a big trip to wegmans for supplies.
however, the schedule would start on sunday as we actually had dinner with karen and carlos. they made a tasty curry and hot and sour soup. we contributed a bottle of red newt dry white.
i also picked up another xbox game: dance dance revolution. i thought amanda would find it entertaining (and obviously i think it’s entertaining), but she accused me of wanting a size zero wife or somesuch. regardless, we had fun with it, but we can’t play it whenever we want because all the jumping about creates a lot of noise (mainly for karen and carlos below us). the checkout guy whom we bought it from apparently is a member of a ddr club at ub… now that’s a bit too crazy.
monday: the usual… work, gym, cleaning, laundry, cooking. amanda had her first day at a pediatric clinic in amherst. she’s be there for three weeks or so. dinner was: tamale pie, a whizzed soup whose contents were mysterious to me, and a spinach, avocado, and grapefruit salad. “three course dinner in less than an hour!” says amanda. it was very tasty.
