amanda had her big surgery shelf exam on friday (which is standardized) plus additional surgery tests given by the med school. her exam pretty much lasted all day. i worked. later, her mother and sister arrived for the med school’s annual family day on saturday. amanda was angry that i did not have the apartment cleaned by the time her mother got there (as i had promised to schedule it around work time), but i countered that i said i would have it cleaned up before 5pm when i was told that she would get there. amanda denied all such knowledge, tho, of actual times and dates. as it turned out, her mom got to buffalo a bit early (half an hour maybe), but i did finish cleaning by 5pm on the nose. amanda’s mom thought that funny.
we kinda relaxed for a couple of hours until her sister arrived. we met her for dinner at don pablos. afterwards, we watched a bit of the matrix reloaded before going to bed.
i had not intended on going to all of the family day festivities (i did not last year either) since i am quite aware of how med school is going for amanda, but i was not feeling all that well in the morning so the point became moot. amanda also has been slightly ill. everyone else headed off to the morning presentation/lectures while i just slept a lot more.
i met back up with them during their lunch, and then we headed back to the apartment to change into more appropriate wear for the med school honors ceremony in the afternoon. i was going wear a formal shirt, but then decided to just go ahead and wear a full suit and tie.
amanda got another dean’s letter for the second year. she’s the bomb.
we had dinner that night at toro. on our way there some random guy on elmwood started following us and talking about random shit. he even followed us into the restaurant, but the host guy escorted him out. amanda got really really mad and yelled at him for his harassment (which was mainly directed towards me) before the host guy got him out.
i had been taking the diplomatic stance by letting the host take him out especially since it did not register to me immediately that he had followed us and the host moved to deal with the situation quite decisively (as he probably has to do such things more regularly that he would like) whilst amanda took the more direct route (she’s the bomb, as i have said). perhaps both reactions at that point were appropriate; ’tis funny because amanda and i had been talking about what to do in similar and related situations.
dinner was very nice. lisa d. was our waitress again. susan magnanimously paid for dinner; i should take her out to another morimoto’s trip when we get down to philadelphia again (ah, i still have to write the description of our meal there up).
we wound down the evening watching the rest of the matrix reloaded and my big fat greek wedding.
sunday, we slept in a bit, looked through wedding pictures to identify the ones amanda’s mom wished duplicates of, and then had brunch at solid grounds. but erika was not there! perhaps next weekend…
afterwards, amanda and susan went to look for some clothes at old navy. they were there quite a while, but i took the opportunity to walk about the plaza and surrounding area since the best way to get to know a place to it walk around it.
amanda’s mom took off for home then, but we relaxed with susan for a while back home before she headed back to philadelphia. we had dinner with karen and carlos (they made pizza), and then watched a few animatrix shorts before going to bed. unfortunately, one of them started me well on the path to a full blown migraine, but i stopped watching before it became to bad. amanda also took the oppportunity to read up on ob/gyn as she started that rotation on monday.
so, yes, monday amanda started her ob/gyn rotation (which was mainly orientation… she really started tuesday). carlos and i went down to the children’s hospital were she and karen were at for lunch. we eventually ate at a pizza place on elmwood. we ran into lisa r. whilst eating; she was on her way to start her pediatrics rotation somewhere nearby.
we made chili for dinner and watched the rest of the animatrix (only two out of nine shorts made me ill) and had a relaxing evening… perhaps something we generally don’t have time for.
now, i am ithaca at work, and am considering what to have for dinner. maybe its time to go home and get some exercise first.
