mira, mira! una tormenta!

after a very sunny morning (which caused many accidents around rochester), the sky is dark and gray and it is very very windy. the traffic lights on 13 and warren are already out; there are morose people in rain jackets directing traffic. i guess i would be morose, too, if i was standing in the middle of a huge intersection of a 55mph highway waiting for the rain to come (and watching out for inattentive drivers).
don just came back from a walk, and he said that he feeling old. he became a grandfather today. he’s wondering when his aarp membership card will come in the mail. i told him age is merely a state of mind.
okay, here is the usual rapid summary of the weekend:
1. amanda was on call on saturday and monday and has been having a stressful time with her pediatric surgery rotation, but her complete surgery rotation will be over in a couple of weeks.
2. we went out of dinner at toro with erika and dave to celebrate my relatively recent birthday last friday. dave actually just came down during dinner and had a bunch of drinks (mainly martini’s and bombay on the rocks). erika was celebrating the start of her five day “vacation” as she apparently does not have to go back to work until this thursday.
3. amanda spent the sunday at barnes and noble, her old studying haunt. there were many other medical students types there (and residents) studying for all kinds of medical things. amanda was studying for the standardized surgery exam (i forget its name). lainie also came up to study for usmle step 3, which she is taking in a couple of weeks.
4. i, of course, did no studying, and mainly bopped around running errands and playing with the piglet.
5. monday was columbus day, and amanda and i both worked. i will refrain from ranting about a holiday that celebrates a genocidal mass murderer as that is not good for my blood pressure.
6. i was going to take the corolla into the shop today as amanda reported intermittent starting problems, but that would have required me leaving buffalo no later than 4am. i did manage to get up at 03:15, but amanda said “just go back to sleep, honey,” and i admit that made perfect sense at the time.
