i just noticed both of the snails in my fishbowl at work are dead. one was my original one from the snail/three fish set amanda gave me as a gift over two years ago. the other was a hitchhiker on one of the plants i put in later. i can see the empty shell of the original one resting on the bottom of the bowl; the other is not in evidence. perhaps it decided to try to leave the bowl and perished during its adventure.
two of the fish are still going strong. i had found out before their typical life expectancy was three months in the wild and 18 months in captivity, but mine are over 24 months now. their third compatriot died many moons ago when it decided it did not want to live shackled anymore and jumped out of the bowl.
i will bring some snails from home to repopulate the bowl as now the algae is taking advantage of the lack snail presence.
