excitement

it’s friday night, and amanda is passed out on the living room carpet. she had one of those days at work/school, but perhaps she will get around to telling about it in her weblog or medlog.
anyways, yesterday christine bused into town from nyc to deal with her volvo. it had gotten towed from the wilderflower preserve parking lot earlier (but it did take them a while), so she had to go pick it up (and pay for the tow and “rent” for each day it was at the storage place). she also called someone to help her jump it.
she tried driving around the kmart parking lot to charge the battery and was fairly successful, but it eventually stalled again. at this point i arrived. she had an appointment with ithaca foreign auto to deal with its starting and idle problems tomorrow, so we debated whether or not to jump the car again and just drop it off at the service shop. however, since we were right beside the autozone (thereby severely lessening the chance the car would die during ithaca’s rush hour), we decided to jump the car, take it to autozone, and just buy another battery.
as fate would have it, the volvo stalled again whilst christine was waiting to take the left turn into autozone’s parking lot. fortunately, she was in a shared turning lane. we considered trying to jump it in the lane vs. just pushing it (which would be a bit tricky with only the two of us since there was an absurb amount of traffic). however, no less than eight people stopped and asked us if we needed help. “only in ithaca,” said christine. with the help of three other people we quickly pushed it into the lot in between traffic.
eventually, she acquired a new battery (there were mysteriously gobs and gobs of people there), and her volvo was good as new. i then wished her a good visit and took off back to buffalo. unfortunately, she is leaving ithaca early sunday, so we would not get a chance to hang out. she will probably be staying at our place in ithaca, tho, for the next few days.
on the way back, i saw the raccoon that i hit on tuesday morning still in the road and looking quite bloaty. sad. i also saw a lot of ontario country sherriff cars about; perhaps thursday is the new day of choice to enforce traffic laws. i managed to avoid another encounter with them.
the excitement didn’t stop once i got back home in buffalo. carlos came up and told us about one of our neighbors (whom i actually have never met nor seen tho i have heard him get into mega arguments with his wife/girlfriend) was completely fucked up and sitting on steps outside our front door. apparently, someone had dropped him off and was going to take him inside, but he insisted on staying outside and got confused as to which building was his. we were then entertained by him muttering to himself, whistling to imaginary women, and sounding like he was going to throw up. amanda was worried that he was going to vomit on all of our plants. we eventually decided to not deal with him (as he was acting pretty freaky) and called the police to talk with him and get him into his own apartment. unfortunately, carlos had to go pick up karen at the hospital, so we talked to him briefly as carlos left, but he was pretty noncoherent.
eventually, the police did show up and convinced him to go back home (i didn’t really witness this tho). however, he went into our building instead as the front door keys are all the same, and i guess the police thought that was fine, so they took off. amanda and i realized this as we heard him in the stairwell being confused. amanda told him he lived in the other buliding, and he mumbled “sorry” (and looked much more sober then as if he suddenly realized where he was), and stumbled back out. he then decided to go for a walk instead of returning home.
as for today, amanda and i worked. hoohah. since she had a bad day, she wanted to eat out at olive garden when she got back home, so we gorged ourselves with their unlimited salad and pasta bowls. while i wasn’t really all that hungry (even after getting back from the gym), we both probably ate more than our money’s worth. the danger of all-you-can-eat places.
before heading home i picked up the schoolhouse rock dvd. woohoo!
of course, amanda had a carbo crash (which is still going on as she is still sleeping), so she didn’t get to see much of it.
