last thursday was exciting; i rushed back to buffalo because the medical authorities had called me and said that amanda was going to an emergency room via ambulance (it’s never good when that happens). but, as it turned out, they were just being ubercareful, and all was well. amanda was having trouble breathing, and, since the clinic could find nothing obvious wrong, sent her to the emergency room in case one of the worse case scenarios developed (which they would not be able to handle). the er ruled out all the obvious stuff (blockages, allergies, infection, panic attacks, yadda yadda yadda), decided that she was not going to die, and sent her home. amanda said that they were put out (“you’re here for a sore throat?”), but she did not have all that much choice in the matter. however, we decided that the clinic did the “right thing” in sending her even if it turned out to be a waste of medical resources.
of course, i was driving up to buffalo during all of this. i was scheduled to show up in the town of geneva for my traffic violation hearing/trial, and you cannot just blow stuff like that off (well, you could, but then they may put a warrant out for you), so i stopped by and had them reschedule. unfortunately, i had to do this in person, but it did not take all that much time.
friday day was all about work. friday night we ate dinner at thai bistro. it’s run/oned by the same people who run the little thai house places in ithaca, and the food is pretty much the same (but perhaps more expensive). we also went to best buy and purchased la femme nikita and dune with a gift card one of my coworkers gave me a while ago.
saturday, we had our traditional bfast with erika at solidgrounds. her friend dave was also there. i was going to go back to ithaca for that day because of work (i had brought a computer up from work and had to connect it physically to our real work network for a very annoying reason), but decided that i could work around the problem; spending six hours in the car when i did not have to did not appeal for me, though amanda was thinking that she wanted to visit ithaca anyway. we ended up not doing all the much during the day… work, cleaning, yadda yadda yadda.
we went that evening to go to toro, a tapas bar on elmwood. one of the doctors are the child advocacy center with whom amanda works gave us some money as a wedding present that we were to use on a romantic dinner. since amanda’s surgical subspecialties were ending shortly (along with her predictable work hours), we decided to splurge on the dinner this weekend. the dinner was very good as usual (if expensive for a tapas place, but we weren’t paying for this one), and we had the same waitress that we’d had a couple of times (lisa d.). i found the restaurant to be much more pleasant now that it is illegal to smoke. there was a guy behind us who was completely outraged that a picther of sangria costs over $20. i kinda think he should not have been all that surprised, but he was quite upset.
sunday we did a bit of hiking around niagara falls again. we mainly just bopped around whirlpool and devil’s hole state parks. the hikes themselves were rather pleasant, but the trails themselves were a bit messy with trash in places. we stopped by the fish place in tonowanda on the way back home to looks at fish and price some fish tanks and stands (as we want to bring our fish up from ithaca), but our decretionary income budget is almost out for the month. amanda discovered at the fish place that her cell phone had gotten all wet from her camelbak and was really not happy. eventually we decided it was toast, even after drying out… something probably permantently shorted. amanda is trying to decide if she should be evil and try to get it replaced under her warrenty, but that would not be nice.
