another relatively lazy day. amanda made waffles for bfast, we did nothing much until lunch (leftover fajita dinner), and then we went off for her third year med student thing.
while we were going to the ceremony, it started raining really realy hard. i got kinda soaked (which was not good for the linen clothes that i was wearing), but fortunately, linen dries fast, even in very air-conditioned buildings. the ceremony itself was nice. there were only a few speakers, and they all talked about how different the final two years in medical schoola are (clinical as opposed to academic), and they speak their speeches short and to the point. they also honored six residents for their excellence in teaching, although i am unsure of their relation to the med school.
we dropped by target on the way back to look for suitable surgical shoes for amanda, but we were denied. amanda is still conflicted over whether or not to get leather shoes (the idealism of youth giving way to the pragmatism of old age and all that), but she is still considering her course of action (i.e. maybe she really doesn’t need them). regardless, she still needs to get suitable shoes, but the actual requirements are a mystery to us at this point, although some appear to be: no laces, must fit in the surgical booties, no holes, not open-toes, etc. etc.).
actually, maybe it wasn’t that lazy a day as amanda and i made much much progress in organizing our work room and filing stuff and catching up on finances and whatnot upon our return home.
her parents took us out to dinner at olive garden. it is obvious that i have been eating way too much recently and have been getting no exercise, but i will try to make it to the gym tomorrow.
we watched the mummy when we got back (a wedding gift from one of amanda’s grandparents). amanda and i actually spent most of the movie time writing wedding thank you cards; we hope to finish those by tomorrow. yet another thing keeping me from finishing my wedding/canada trip reports.
amanda’s third year orientation starts at 8am tomorrow, and i have to actually start work. her parents are heading back to ohio tomorrow as well. no more vacation for me! it will be hard to get back in the flow of things (it always is for me) as i have only worked a bit over a week in july. sad, but its time to start bringing home the tofu again. i am no longer maxed out in my vacation days (as i have been most of my working life); it will take a while to get maxed out again (a year). well, amanda doesn’t get any time off during her third year anyway.
