i hit a raccoon last night on the way back to buffalo on 96. he ran out into the road, but since the ground was wet, we were on a curve sloped the wrong way, and i was going quite fast, i was unable to go into full scale avoidance maneuvers without spinning out. i twitched the car a bit a hoped he would just get out of the way. unfortunately, he merely looked a me and therefore was selected out. it was sad.
i did not stop at the ontario service center for my traditional diet coke and fries because amanda had made dinner (mushroom lasagna!).
otherwise, the drive was the same as always, even tho i have not driven it in over a month.
amanda, of course, is still studying for the boards.
we had brunch with erika at the solid grounds on elmwood. we picked her up at her new condo, which was very nice. its in a old and probably architecturally significant building. she is still organizing and unpacking tho. i had an omlette, toast, and hashbrowns at the cafe, whilst amanda went for the banana walnut pancakes. erika just got granola.
we did not linger over the meal as is perhaps our wont because erika was working at the children’s hospital today. she was in the er today and was happy that the weather was rainy and unpleasant because the er would not be busy and she could use the time to check up on her other patients. she says that the bad weather really cuts down on frivolous er visits as people who really aren’t that sick don’t want to bother coming in. also, kids are less likely to be falling off their bicycles and whatnot, i guess.
i almost went running today, but the weather did not cooperate. i spent the day putzing about the apartment and idly cleaning and organizing (complete with middday nap) and playing with piglet. amanda, of course, spent the day studying and still is for that matter.
eventually erika will come over tonight and hang out, and perhaps karen will as well. i should clean up more before they come.
