“that is the sound of inevitability”

amanda and i received a few more borders cards from discover (they give double cash back on borders cards), so we went to borders yesterday and got a variety of bargain books plus two dvds: the matrix and powaqqatsi. amanda isn’t ready to see powaqqatsi; she seems to think that it will be too depressing to watch until after her next exam. i stayed up way too late last night watching the matrix (or rather various scenes) over and over again. we did watch it completely from start to finish this evening when amanda needed a study break.
there is a krispy kreme by the borders in cheektowaga, and someone had dropped a bunch of donuts in the parking lot. a large swarm of seagulls were overjoyed at their good fortune, but they only seemed to be interested in donuts that another bird was trying to eat (rather than them all having a donut for themselves). it was amusing to watch one try to make off with a donut and then have the others try to take it away. when we came out of the borders, all the seagulls and donuts were gone.
i was pretty wasted after the gym and amanda wanted to get out of the apartment, so we decided to eat out. we went to this family style greek restaurant on hertel just down the street from us called kostas. it was alright…perhaps ideal for a family. amanda had a big greek salad and a spanakopita appettizer, whilst i had and vege lasagna and salad. and the french fries, of course. the lasagna, was a bit unusual… it basically, cheese and vegetables sandwiched between lasagna noodles. not layed as is more typical. it was served with a red sauce for dipping or whatever one would choose. the service was good, and it was an ok value for the money, so perhaps we will go again sometime.
erika came over last night with a guest of hers from toronto (oh, no, more sars contact!), but he is working in new jersey at the moment. he is from pakistan, but unfortunately, i do not remember his name. weirdly enough, he actually studied at lamar university when he first came to the united states. amanda’s parents both went to lamar, and she was born in beaumont. the guy had never met anyone else who had ever heard of lamar or beaumont before.
amanda is still studying for her exam tomorrow. perhaps i wlil try to get something useful done and start unpacking all the books i brought up from ithaca.
