amanda and i had a mushroom and leek risotto and a mixed green salad with balsamic dressing. also had crusty bread with a soft cheese. and a 1999 newlan (napa valley) merlot. the risotto was good, tho it did not turn out as i expected; the wine and stock were much more dominant flavors. the wine was good; amanda’s sister had given it to us as a gift. it was quite light and understanted, which is seemed unusual to me for a merlot. not exactly what would go with the risotto, but it went very well with the cheese.
