My mom came to visit last week. She was here for around five days and will be coming back at the end of the month when Amanda goes back to work to watch over LK for a couple of months. At which point I will watch over him until we get day care squared away.
LK cried a lot when she was here, but less than he had the week before. Hopefully he will be better behaved when my mom comes back.
We were pretty boring when she visited. I had all kinds of crap to do at work right before she came, and I think I just collapsed her first night here. We went on walks because they reliably calm the progeny down. We went to El Sombrero for dinner once. We went to IKEA to get a rocking chair (well, more like a rockable chair than a traditional one) to assist us and my mom when LK is having a hissy cow. And he had plenty after we got it. We did P-Patch and worm bin maintenance (mostly a temp fix of the raised beds). We went to get LK birth certificate fixed as noted in the previous entry.
As and aside, the person at the vital statistics place completely could not understand my mom for some reason. She said something like “I am his grandmother and came all the way from the East Coast” and the person thought she said she had cancer or something and was coming here for treatment and kept talking about how great the cancer treatment options are here in Seattle. Weird.
Work is killing me. After all the layoffs the place has had (well, it’s not that big), another guy resigned and caused chaos. I think management was surprised, but they really should not have been. I have been tempted to quit, too, for a lot of reasons, and especially since I am now the only US based developer on staff now, but I will wait out the last six or so weeks of my contract. They do pay well and on time after all.
The last guy leaving freaked out the company and they made the remaining people sign NDA/confidentiality/non-compete agreements today. I almost did not sign it, mainly due to the possibly vague non-compete clause, but it seems unlikely I will work for someone in the same industry any time soon, so I was like… “whatever”. I almost pointed out that maybe this document was not valid because I don’t actually work for the company but a contracting organization (where I already signed the usual NDAs), but, eh.
I did eat up the usual four hours commuting in by bus today. I actually like commuting by bus, especially now that the days are longer, as I find it very meditative, but unfortunately, I only have a certain amount of life and would rather be spending it doing other things.
Tomorrow I am going to try to work from home; hopefully no one at work will squawk. After all, working at home was part of the deal, but alas, the guy who hired me was let go a while ago as is the other guy involved in my joining the organization. But, I can deal with it for a few more weeks.
OK, enough about work as I usually try not to put such things in the weblog.
