28 JUL 2007 : SATURDAY
Amanda had Saturday clinic in the morning, and she then went clothes shopping with Carrie downtown. I did typical house crap, went to the gym, and then went downtown as well. I did a lot of wandering about to places that Amanda does not like going to (e.g. Pike Place Market). I had a falafel sandwich at Falafel King on First. There was an astounding amount of raw garlic in the tahini sauce, and I felt like I had a garlic aura for hours afterwards.
As Falafel King is across the Street from Showgirls, I was entertained by their scrolling light billboard things whilst eating my food outside. One of the signs promised what I thought were “LURES”, and I was all like WTF? but I eventually realized that a few bulbs were burnt out and they meant to say “LUBES”.
There was a lot of activity downtown because of the Seafair Parade that night and a 5K or 10K run. There were people reserving there spots along Fourth in the morning for the parade which did not start until dark (as it is called the “Torchlight Parade”). I think parades are fine and all, but I don’t know about waiting that long for one.
I eventually met back up with Amanda, and we went back home so she could rest.
Amanda wanted to go to Tamarind Tree for Vietnamese food, so we did. Since we went very early, it was not packed, and the service was very good. I have found the place to be much more pleasant when it is not busy.
Back home, we helped Bill and Kelly put in their flagstone patio. They had been leveling out the ground and whatever all day. I did more of the moving of stones from the pallets to the yard, while Amanda read People magazine and later helped arrange the stones. Tom and Jackie (Jacky?) were also there.
All of us later hung out on Kevin and Greg’s patio. Bill and Kelly’s patio was not done, but they would work on it the next day.
29 JUL 2007 : SUNDAY
We got up early to meet up with Tom and Jackie and another coworker at Seward Park. They were going to go swimming. We picked up Jackie’s kayak (stored at Bill and Kelley’s house) before heading out; Tom would ride in the Kayak and while everyone else was swimming.
The weather was actually rather grey and rainy. I did not swim; I was going to have a slothful morning, but Amanda convinced me that I wanted to go running. While everyone else was toiling in Lake Washington, I ran around Seward Park. And it did look like they were toiling as the water was quite choppy.
After drying off at home, we met up with Tom and Jackie at Geraldine’s Counter for brunch. They don’t have their mushroom omelette anymore.
I planted more spinach in the garden later.
