weekend recap (other than the race)

18 MAY 2007 : FRIDAY
We had dinner at the Wellington in Columbia City. They recently updated their menu (which three vegetarian options instead of one), so we decided to check it out. There was a jazz duo which morphed into a trio later. They were pretty good. As for the food, we got fried okra for an appetizer. Slurp. I did not get a vegetarian option; I choose the fried catfish which was described as “the Best in Seattle”. I must admit, it was quite good. It also came with collard greens… good for collard greens I guess… and macaroni and cheese. Slurp. Amanda simply choose three vegetarian side dishes: green beans, macaroni and cheese, and black eyed peas and rice. The green beans were ok; as one might expect they were cooked until they were very squishy. Authentic (although I don’t like to use that word with food), but not necessarily to my liking. The peas were fine if nondescript.
I actually liked the catfish a lot and the okra was yummy, but I agreed with Amanda that the sides were not that exciting. It is possible the other two veggie main dishes are better, but we probably won’t be back at least for quite a while as we are supposed to always go to new places if we eat out.
19 MAY 2007 : SATURDAY
Heather came over in the morning to work out resident stuff with Amanda for next year. We had coffee cake for bfast. I worked on TODO list items which in this case were all related to disentangling personal stuff from business stuff. We were all busy until the early afternoon.
Amanda and I then went up to Husky Stadium to register for the Beat the Bridge race. We did not want to deal with it early in the morning before the race.
Amanda wanted to go to Chipotle afterwards, but there was a festival going on along the Ave so there was no parking to be found. We went to University Village instead and had a light sushi lunch at Blue C before dropping some shoes off to a cobbler there. We thought we would have to pick them up later, but he said they would be ready in thirty minutes, so we wandered about until they were done.
20 MAY 2007 : SUNDAY
We ran the race as recapped earlier.
After we recovered a bit at home, Amanda went off to knit with Carrie while I did house stuff.
Karl and Eve moved to their new house the day before, so we visited them at their new place and brought them dinner. The house was very nice. They had some things unpacked, but they still had much to do. I did see Satchel, but he refused to come out from underneath the futon couch. We brought bread, wine, cheese, olives, hummus, honey, orzo salad, and potato leek soup. The soup was from our pre-race dinner the night before.
