saturday recap… today that is

Amanda and I went to the gym early today at 8am. There were quite a lot of people there… most to take advantage of the free training they give. We went early as we definitely wanted to work out today, and we had to help Eve move at 10am.
Eve was having problems getting her rental truck from Budget. They had closed three area outlets recently, and that caused chaos with the many rentals which they basically redistributed amongst the rest of the outlets. She said people were getting much more “bitter” as time went on as she waited.
Moving was very easy. Eve had already moved much of her stuff by hand; we were just helping with the larger items. Karl and James were also there. It went very quickly. Eve expressed her amazement to Amanda about how much I can sweat. What can I say. It was pretty cold and rainy for most of the day, too. I was very tired since I spent the morning doing a serious back and chest workout. I wanted to “supervise”, but Eve said I had the most muscle mass of anyone there, so perhaps my skills could be better utilized in another way.
We only helped loading, as moving the stuff to the new abode would be much easier, so Eve would not need really need us.
Afterwards, I was starving, so we went to Amanda’s choice of lunch: Chipotle. We then went to City People’s Garden Store to pick up more seeds and other gardening items. Then we went to Lowe’s to look for chicken wire and a portable fire pit-thing that Amanda coveted. The chicken wire was to cover up our pea seeds in the garden from ravenous squirrels. We did not find any chicken wire, and the employee we asked directed us to spooled wire! I don’t think he knew what chicken wire was, which I find a little shocking, but I guess this is a city after all.
We then went home to plant our garden for the spring (basically almost half the plot). Actually, I had a power nap first. Amanda was bitter that the weather was coldish today as she wanted to plant a couple of days ago but I did not want to for various reasons, but planting was fun today regardless. We planted peas, carrots, turnips, lettuce, and beets. And we still have onions, scallions, lettuce, kale and spinach from over the winter. Since we could not find chicken wire, we used “bird netting” to cover the area with the peas. Hopefully the squirrels won’t dig too much in the other areas.
The kale was not long for the world as we had some for dinner: pappardelle with kale, veggie apple “sausage”, and parmesano reggiano. Delish. We had a nice red wine, too, which was especially nice as we had a nasty nasty one the day before which even I could not drink even half a glass. And salad and bread and brie. Slurp.
Amanda tried to make a sweet potato pudding thing, but it turned out a little to gingery. The recipe called for fresh ginger but she used dried and it did not disperse well in the mixture. Ah, well.
I went to Safeway and picked up a pack of “2 hour Fire Logs” since actual wood is a little harder to obtain nearby. The fire pit thing was nice. The 2 hour Fire Log lasted much longer than two hours, though, at least it wold have it if hadn’t started raining at around the two hour mark.
Amanda is sleeping on the couch upstairs. I dunno what the rest of the evening holds for me.
