new years and piglet’s birthday

// 2007.01.01 03:23 //

Amanda is up for a nasty day… she just finished a twelve+ hour ER shift, maybe a ten hour break, then a 24-30 hour OB shift. I picked her up from work around 7:30 maybe, and then we went to Tutta Bella to celebrate the end of her ER shift.
Some choice Amanda quotes this evening:
“I am totally unsympathetic.”
“No, it’s not going to hurt as much as the feelings of the people whose car you stole and crashed” (OK, she didn’t say that to the person)
“Maybe you shouldn’t have gotten high and snorted cocaine and then gone snowmobiling.” (OK, she didn’t say that out loud either)
“Alright, we won’t cut your $400 dollar pants off.”
Hmm, maybe I will stop with the Amanda quotes as there were many. She calmed down during dinner (which was the point from my perspective of going out to eat).
She relaxed a bit at home, then we went to a NYE party at Zubin and Heather’s (their apartments are right on top of each other’s in the same three/four unit house). Amanda probably should’ve stayed home and slept, but she wanted to get some info on her new rotation as well as relax amongst friends. We probably stayed for an hour-and-a-half, but left before 11pm. The party was really low key, but gobs of people showed up right when we were leaving (all those party-hoppers).
Our neighbors Kelly and Bill were also having a party, so we dropped by there when we got home. Actually, a lot of the people who showed up at Heather and Zubin’s had been at Kelley’s party because they had been invited to both. We stayed probably longer than was good and actually welcomed the new year with everyone, but we went home right after midnight (translation: walked across the driveway between our townhouses).
Amanda is sleeping, of course, but will be up in a couple of hours. I was too wound up to go to sleep immediately.
New Years always confuses me as I always feel NYE is the holiday, while New Years is just another day. I was trying to set up a meeting for instance and was reminded it was a holiday. Oops.
Today is also piglet piglet’s birthday. Just like many other cats. She is officially eight years old but obviously is probably older. I did not get her a present, but maybe I will let her maraud outside longer when she wakes up. I don’t think she realizes the import of today.
