A week or so ago, a couple of guys managed to get a hold of a master key and broke into our apartment building and ran off with various items. I do not believe they entered any rooms, but they did go into some storage closets.
The management dropped info off to everyone and changed all the locks in the place… clearly having a master key was pretty foolish. I had looked to see that my bicycle was still around and briefly looked into our storage closet and nothing seemed amiss.
However, Amanda and I wanted to go on a bicycle ride the other day, and I noticed that my rack pack filled with all my remaining bicycle thingamabobs was missing. Damn. Not only that, but one of my wheels had a broken spoke, so I spent $17 getting someone else to fix it when I could have done it myself.
We did end up going on the ride anyay. It was nice.
I originally thought that there was around $120 worth of stuff in it mainly comprised of the pack itself plus a lot of random junk… tools, spare parts, reflectors, blah blah blah. Now I think my rather sweet set of lights was in it, too… $350 worth just for those. That kinda sucks. I suppose this is what I get for not getting renters insurance once we got out here. After having it for ten years in NY and never using it, too.
Ah, well, what can you do. I will do a more thorough check tomorrow before filling out the police report. The management told me that the perps have been identified, so perhaps there is a greater than zero chance I can get the stuff back.
