I spent a lot of time sleeping this weekend. Maybe in 3-4 hour shifts. It was nice. Amanda slept a lot, too. She was sick, but she is now feeling better.
Saturday, we enjoyed not having to get up. We had a snack/lunch at the Essential Bakery Cafe in Madison Valley. It was alright, but the sandwich I had was pricey… perhaps due to the upscaleness of the place.
We stopped by a pet place next door to the cafe to look for piglet toys. Amanda got involved in a long discussion with one of the proprietors about piglet’s diet and inappropriate urination and possible links between the two. It went on and on, and I got bored with it rather quickly… perhaps due to the rather involved theories the proprietor had about feline diets and modern veterinariary care. I explored the store while Amanda continued talking. Eventually we left with some wet food sample for piglet.
We then went to the Japanese garden. It was interesting as always. And as always there were a lot of people there.
It was cold, so the koi were rather immobile. We only saw the big ones; there were no smaller ones to be found. We were puzzled about this, but then we saw the very large heron perched at the edge of the water. It was very suspicious. I could not identify it’s exact species though. There were also two dabbler-type ducks there as well that I could not identify. I need to get the western version of my Peterson’s bird book.
Upon departng, our car got positively drenched in bird droppings. We could hear the rapid thunks hitting all parts of the car. Yuck! Some passersby were very amused, but perhaps they were just glad they did not get caught. We drove to a self car wash and hosed the car down. It was pretty crazy how much we had been hit.
We had an early pasta dinner, after which I passed out for four hours. Amanda tried to stay up as long as she could (since she is working nights). We just relaxed at home.
Sunday was pretty low key. Amanda slept most of the day since she has night shifts. I did a lot of laundry and other minor apartment stuff. Piglet did not like one of the new food samples and kept throwing it up. Ug.
On a grocery run to the co-op, I ran into Andy McMillan, another old housemate of mine. Crazy, especially since he lives in Portland and not Seattle (although he did live here a few years). I ran into Jen Szolnoki, too, at almost the same time. We (not including Andy), had been too busy to really get together, but hopefully we will have more free time.
Later, Amanda and I had a quick sushi dinner at Blue C and I dropped her off at the university hospital. My evening/early morning consisted of a nap, web surfing, and work.
This week Paul is coming up from Boulder for a conference, and I should be meeting up with him on Tuesday or Wednesday. I should also be meeting up with Yun for lunch on Friday; we tried to hook up last Friday, but we both did not realize it was a holiday, so we altered our plans.
Amanda does not like night float… the schedule that is, not the rotation in general, but she only has it for another week.
I should be going on sabbatical soon… like next week. Time to look for another job.
