weekend summary

maybe I should stop doing weekend summaries because Amanda and I have kinda fluid work schedules… anyway…
29 JUL 2005 : Friday
Amanda and I had dinner at the Coastal Kitchen. Amanda insisted on driving the eight blocks because she was tired, although parking would be (and was) a problem. The restaurant itself was very nice; I daresay one of my favorites so far in Seattle. The primarily serve fishy type things for dinner, but they have a wide variety of dishes. Every three months they have a special themed menu (that I do not think they repeat). At this point, I do not remember what we had, but I remember being pleased with what I got. A reasonable value for the money… what I usually remember about a place. They did not have any inexpensive wines (the cheapest was ~$30 a bottle)… a big minus in my opinion (which makes it much less reasonable).
Of course, that did not stop us (well, me really) from getting a bottle because our weekly dinner out because we were celebrating the end of yet another week. Although neither of us has workweeks. And “I got some money cause I just got paid” as the former Cat Stevens said.
30 JUL 2005 : Saturday
I got poisoned by the wine last night (I drank most of it) and was feeling pretty lousy most of the day. Eh. We later picked up a cheap single chair at IKEA; our living area is complete. Piglet has taken quite a fancy to the chair and sleeps in it all the time. It does not match any of our other furniture, but I remedied that by draping a quilt over it, so it looks a little better. The quilt has the added advantage of being easily cleaned of piglet fur.
I think I bought some rum and irish creme. Or maybe that was yesterday?
31 JUL 2005 : Sunday
Another 30 hour shift for Amanda. I idly worked at home. Later in the early afternoon I took a walk downtown and determined it would take around 30 minutes to get there from our apartment. I stopped in Capitol Hill to check out the Block Party. I perused the food and random vendors and listened to the music (I did not pay, but sound waves outside know no bounds). The website says the vendors would have stuff you really want to buy instead of the normal crap. I must admit it still looked like normal festival stuff to me.
After exploring Capitol Hill a bit, I wandered a while downtown. I mainly went down various streets I had not walked down to see what was there. I stopped by the market to look for dried mushrooms (didn’t find any reasonable ones) and just to continue absorbing Seattle area price information. Things are not necessarily cheaper at the market, but the produce and fish typically look a lot fresher. The placed was packed as usual on the weekends, so I did not linger. I later picked up some more spice containers and a “muddler” for mixed drinks at a kitchen place, before catching the 11 bus back home.
I did not do anything crazy later. Worked, puttered around, played with the piglet. Actually, I took a long nap after getting home. Exciting.
