So what was happening last weekend? Amanda and I spent most/all of our time sorting through all of our stuff and doing some preliminary packing. For instance, we spent a lot of time going through all of our papers and determining the bare minimum we needed to take while shredding everything else. We managed to fill up the huge paper recycling bin outside our pod of houses. We also sorted through more clothes, packed up our hiking equipment, and sorted though/donated books and whatnot to the Friends of the Library. And probably lots of other stuff. I had to recycle many books because they had been “pigletized” by the evil little one.
I spent much time looking for my passport. I somehow managed to lose it since my trip to SF. I will apply for a replacement this week. I imagine I will find it shortly afterwards; that is just how life is.
We went to the Plantations one evening to walk about. Amanda chased a family of Canada geese just because she wanted to see the little chicks/goslings swim! We did not walk that much as I was exhausted and proceeded to pass out for thirteen or so hours once we got home.
So our fishes will be gone; I imagine my coworker will pick them up in the next few days. Our betta, though, will still remain with us and will take the journey to Seattle in a Nalgene bottle.
It looks like the “old man” (an old man o’ the Andes cactus) is not long for this world. Perhaps he senses that we are leaving. I will have to compost him soon, probably with all my aloe plants. I have had both of them for practically all of my time here in Ithaca. Perhaps we will end up composting most of the plants unless we can give them away.
I took the Corolla in today to get the summer tires mounted and for a final checkup. I had them fix a bunch of wiring because of its predilection of not starting when it was wet outside. I was amused that this problem is typically troubleshooted by spraying down the engine compartment (which makes total sense really). So, hopefully both the auto will make it to the west coast without too much trouble. I do not think we will sell the Subaru before leaving.
I also got a new waste permit for the dump/solid waste center. I am sure there will be many trips in the near future.
Amanda had her final trip to the dentist today to fix one of her temporary fillings she got a while ago. Hopefully there will be no more dental emergencies.
