The bowl of Mr. W.T., our betta fish, is in a crazy state. He seemed fine when I got back, so I did not look too closely in his bowl. When I did a water change tonight, there was a huge quantity of rotting crap at the bottom. It smelled very very bad. It looks like it was a combination of overfeeding the month I was gone plus the death of much of the plant that was in the bowl (perhaps due to the change of environment from work to here in Brooktondale). I did a massive water change and cleaning, but it still smells odd. Funny that it did not smell at all before I did the water change; I guess all the badness was stuck on the bottom.
Hopefully Mr. W. T. will make is through. He does not look diseased and seems as vigorous as ever.
The other tropical tank and the goldfish seem fine. The goldfish need a serious water change and cleaning as well, but that will have to wait until tomorrow when their water is ready. Actually, all the fish need more upkeep. I had done some when I returned, but I did not realize the magnitude of the betta’s troubles.
I am considering sticking our large snail in with the betta, but that might be too much of a shock to its system (the snail that is). It certainly keeps the tropical tank very clean.
As for what else I have accomplished tonight…. fish maintenance, computer maintenance, lifting, Naruto watching, piglet exercise, plus exercise bicycle for me once I finish this entry. Piglet has been glowering at me all evening; she does not appreciate my recent odd sleeping schedule.
