friday: work work work work work work work work. amanda had come back to ithaca the day before (i think, i am already forgetting). charles, an old friend from college was in town, so we met up with him later for dinner. an old girlfriend of charles, alex, and her partner erin also came along. alex and erin had just moved to ithaca a couple of months ago and wanted to try out madelines.
dinner and conversation was fun. alex and erin are both family practice doctors and worked up at convenient care, so even in ithaca i am outnumbered by medical personel. they had just moved from madison, wisconsin (a place we briefly considered for residency) as they wanted a less crazy medical life and a place where they could hold hands walking down the street without getting stoned or the like.
charles ended up staying the night with us. we idly talked and played random computer games. charles has had severe medical problems (all stemming from carpel tunnel which stopped his computer career cold) and has been not working for over three years, but he is feeling better now and looking to better things in the future.
saturday: we had bfast with charles at home, and then he went off to meet some other cornell friends. amanda worked on more unpacking and organizing. we went into town to drop off stuff to the salvation army(although there new emphasis on their religious mission has given me pause). we also went back to petsmart to get two new goldfish — “six” and “seven” — tho amanda wants to call them something else. “five” still has a weird bulbous thing on his snout; i don’t know what’s up with that. i have been treating the goldfish with ick and fungus medicine, so hopefully anything eating them will perish.
all the fish in the tropical tank are very happy. we also picked up more plants of that tank because the catfish and gourmani are much happier with more shady places to hide.
i also tried to see if i could get my old hiking boots resoled, but it would have cost too much… better just to get another pair. disconsolate, we bought a case of wine to fill up our wine rack at home.
we were going to meet back up with charles later, but we decided to keep on unpacking.
sunday: we finally finished unpacking stuff. well, mostly. woot. i had noticed that the corolla had not had its oil changed in almost 7000 miles yesterday, and the oil itself was low. we headed out to get the oil changed and had lunch at a chinese buffet.
later that evening our neighbor ben was having a party and cookout. the weather really really sucked tho, so the people that came relaxed in his house. there was salad, bread, cheese, a huge hunk of lamb, and various desserts. amanda brought over some brownies. our landlady was there, so we got to meet her for the first time ever. we also met a few of the neighbors that we had not met before. i retired back to our place because there is much much work to be done.
amanda was going to head back to buffalo that evening, but decided to wait until monday morning to head back instead. she had a lecture at 8am, but did not work until 7pm. regardless, she gota bit of sleep while i worked all night. i conveniently was able to wake her up at 4:30 for her drive back, tho she did not get out of bed until 4:50.
monday: work work work work work. the lack of sleep over the past couple of weeks finally caught up with me, and i passed out once i got home at around 7pm and did not wake up until the next morning.
tuesday: work work work work work. amanda came back to brooktondale since she has two days off. we had wine and cheese and salad for dinner.
wednesday: amanda took off for buffalo this morning. she has to do most of the driving now. she will be going to a spa with lainie in a couple of hours. i am at work. our milestone has kinda passed, so maybe i will be getting more sleep in the coming weeks. at least until our next one.
