it looks like one of our gourmani fish is not long for this world. it was acting funny when i got back to brooktondale last night, and this morning it was lying on its side. sad. i have wondered if the two had been getting enuf to eat, since i rarely see them eat anything, but the other one looks fine (and has taken to lurking in the mythical skull that amanda banished from our other tanks). if it is still alive tonight when i get back, i will try to move it to another tank that i brought down from buffalo and see if is merely a hunger problem, but i think something more nefarious is going on.
i spent quite a bit of time this morning rescuing slugs that were frying themselves on the cement path outside the house. they were normally bright yellow but started turning brown as they got caught out in the sun. it was sad as they reared up as if looking for shelter in the middle of the sidewalks. i do not think they can actually see very far if at all. anyways, i doused them with water (and there were a lot) and slowly started moving them to a much more shaded side of the house. thankfully, they all started looking much better after rehydrating in the shade. alas, they probably have not learned anything, and i was merely temporarily halting natural selection. at least i did not have to see them cooking in front of me. i did see one brilliant yellow one venture out during this process, but it freaked out immediately and turned around. i do not know what the other ones were thinking. well, them being slugs and all, they probably don’t think all that much.
unfortunately, i accidentally stepped on a large snail as i finished moving the last one. damn.
