weekend update part one

friday: i spent many hours in the early morning finishing up cleaning my old apartment on giles street. evidently, my landlord was impressed with the cleaning job, as i met up with him in the afternoon to do a final mail check and give him back all the keys.
i later went to maxie’s for a celebratory dinner for my former coworker maggie. she actually left voluntarily before the last layoff period. there were many people there (12 perhaps?). amanda showed up later, but still made it in time for dinner because it took a while to seat all of us. the dinner and conversation were nice, but a bit shockingly expensive (we just split the bill evenly)… too many oysters were ordered and they apparently are pretty freaking expensive.
amanda and i then headed back to work to drop off one of our cars as i did not want to take up many parking spaces this weekend at the new place. most of the others, including maggie, went off for more fun and excitement.
at the new place, i simply collapsed on the rug in our main room. i guess i had been expending too much energy cleaning and moving and working the past few days. i did manage to wash a bunch of dishes and do some laundry before passing out, tho. amanda spent the time unpacking and setting up the new place. she was amused that i only managed to eat half a pringles container before passing out… proof of my tiredness as normally that would never happen. she got practically everything unpacked and put away; she even put together the futon frame that vishal will be using for a few weeks.
i did find out that we sorta get cell phone signal from verizon in the loft area when standing by the window. probably not good enuf for long conversations tho.
vishal did not manage to make it to the new place and apparently simply collapsed at work after making some deadline really early saturday morning.
saturday: amanda continued setting up the house in the morning while i slept in. she had automatically gotten up at 6am or so, as did i, but i decided that sleep was more important. we got in touch with lainie, and determined that she would arrive around one or so.
at around 10am, we headed out to downtown ithaca and walked about the commons. i had not actually done that, on a saturday no less, in quite a long time. amanda had not had bfast, but it was a bit late for it, so we waited until lunch was being served at some places before getting something to eat. we got falafel at king david’s… an old weekend tradition of mine before meeting amanda.
after walking about a bit more, we headed to my workplace to check email and surf the net while waiting for lainie to arrive. she eventually got closer to ithaca, and we arranged to meet her at the wegmans downtown. she was hungry, so she picked up some sushi there, and we talked about her rather disastrous personals date(s) she had over the past few days.
we headed back to our place to drop off lainie’s car, and then headed back into town to give lainie a whirlwind tour of ithaca and cornell. we stopped by six mile creek vineyard to do a bit of wine tasting. it was the annual wine-and-herb festival, so there were more than the usual people sampling wines. we then did a driving tour (the walking tour was vetoed) thoughout the cornell campus. amanda wanted to stop at the dairy bar, but it was closed, and she was angry at this indignity. we drove about ithaca and the town and the like, and then headed back home to clean up a bit for dinner.
to be continued…
