so the other day in buffalo, a very earnest young woman came to the door and expounded on the evils of those polluting our environment, how evil it all was, and what i could do about it. normally, i usually ignore all such entreaties for funds by people harassing me at home, but i sent her away with the $5 in my pocket since she was actually very knowledgable about local issues as opposed to simply being an earnest young activist. tho she was definitely very very earnest.
unlike the guy who came representing the defenders of wildlife (who also wanted money and my address so they could deluge me with junkmail). he could give no reason why i should support reintroduction of wolves and whatnot other than “they’re beautiful and noble beasts” and “everyone can see that it’s the right thing to do”. um, yeah. that kind of logic is not going to help their cause. i have moved twice since then and the mail is still following me.
some local mormons also came by recently doing their missionary thing. they were not nearly as pushy as some i had the misfortune of running into in ithaca. when i indicated that i was completely not interested, they were ok with that, and we had a long conversation about random stuff.
what i should do is find a cheap webcam that i can set up so i can see who is at the door before deciding to answer it. another thing that i will never have time to do, i guess.
