i called verizon up about the collection notice that i had been sent. i was paranoid that it was some elaborate scam, so i called their official number instead of the numbers listed in collection letter. nothing was wrong with my current account, and apparently the charges were for stuff related to changing my old ithaca number to a buffalo number a few months ago. of course, these charges should have been waived (i had not even known they existed). the rep said, paraphrased, oops, that should not have happened… you can ignore the collection notice. well, thanks.
my paranoid mind thinks that they may send these things out to many people and hope that they would simply pay the fees. especially since they did not even bother sending me a bill before turning my name over. when you call their main number, they have a specific choice in their answering tree for collection notices, so obviously they must send out a lot of them.
grrr. gorble. arrr.
