i went to the doctor yesterday; it wasn’t too exciting. i mainly went to get flu and tetanus shots, but also to get a routine checkup. i ended up talking to dr. kuntz for quite a while; i presume he did not have any other appointments and perfered talking to me rather than dealing with the administrative work i am sure awaited him. we mainly talked about how to lower the risk of type 2 diabetes (not too surprising… exercise, diet, and whatnot), how my shoulder was doing (much better since i do resistance training now), what to do about my migraines (nothing really, since they don’t occur with great frequency and i just sleep them off), and whether or not i should drop my bmi (an interesting question), and random other things. my bmi is currently 30, which is the “obese” level, but i am in pretty good shape. maintaining a lighter weight would obviously be beneficial, but whether the gains (joint stress, lower caloric intake, longer life, less risk factors for everything, world peace, yadda yadda yadda) would be “worth” it are questionable. getting down to 160 would bring my bmi to around 25, which is the limit of “healthy” weight, but i haven’t been that weight day-to-day since high school. after my sabbatical in the mountains, i was 157, but that was after two months of extreme physical activity and very low daily caloric intake, which would be hard to replicate during normal life. a few years ago, i was closer to 220, but i was in much better shape, so perhaps i am just a naturally solid guy.
anyways, he didn’t think it was anything to worry about as we were just shooting the shit, as it were, but he did recommend i that cut down my carb intake, which is probably a very good idea. no more pringles or king size fries for me, i guess. well, perhaps only for special occasions. otherwise, i am still young enough that there aren’t a whole lot of things to monitor since i am pretty healthy. i decided to skip the blood work since i was going to get stuck a couple of times for the shots.
today, i managed to whip through the dmv today to renew the subaru’s registration. it was surprisingly painless.
the weather is pretty bad outside right now… very windy and snowy. the drive back to buffalo will be quite entertaining i imagine.
