our neighbor ross had a big cookout in our backyard last night. they were all quite jolly and noisy, but politely dispersed rather early around 10:30pm. there was only a bit of quiet, because then all the dogs in the neighborhood begain continouously barking. they must have kept up their discussion for hours.
i thought that was all good and dandy, but at some point i noticed all the police cars parked in front of our two apartment buildings. i do not know what was up, but they kept on talking to some guy they had bound in one of the car’s backseat. it was a bit strange, but eventually they left. the dogs kept barking tho.
tonight on the way back home from erika’s, there were two police cars down the block from us again. maybe hot weather this month has driven everyone a bit bonkers.
today was a relaxing day. amanda stumbled in from call at around 8am and promptly feel asleep and ignored our poor piglet’s piteous cries of hunger. i must admit that i ignored them as well. piglet has taken to sitting angrily in our bedroom doorway or on a shelf and moving her neck about to ring her bell on her collar and try to wake us up. her new maneuver isn’t very effective tho.
when amanda got up a few hours later, she really wanted to have brunch at solid grounds, so off we went. i’m always up for eating out. erika had the day off, so she joined us there; she also had eaten bfast there earlier. as usual, i got the fresh herb omelet whilst amanda got a red pepper and goat cheese one.
we lingered over brunch and then walked up the street to check out the elmwood avenue art festival. it was nice, and the weather was perfect for walking about enjoying art and the outside. i only looked about; amanda purchased a set of earings. erika left us early in our adventure to take a nap back home.
we stopped by the lexington coop on the way back to our auto and bought some coffee and sugar (my that sounds like the manifest of some ship a few centuries ago). amanda tries to get beet sugar now ever since i pointed out to her a couple of years ago that most sugar is nonvegetarian… practically all cane sugar is processed with bone char, for example. we had big plans for the rest of the day (running errands and the like), but we just went back home and spaced out.
we met up again with erika and had dinner at the saigon cafe (eating out twice in one day! how decadent). the food and service were very good as they always are, but i am always struck with how small the dishes are. that seems to be a trend in the asian restaurants i been in recently. ah, well.
afterwards, we went to erika’s condo and watched red dragon. i had not seen any of the hannibal movies in full before. the movie was much less freaky and violent than i had expected, but erika said the other two were much worse in that regard.
i took erika’s notebook computer back with me to fix it up. it apparently has all sorts of weird problems, and now it is suffering from the recent ms blaster virus and its variants (among other things). hopefully, i will be able to take care of it tomorrow, so erika won’t be without her computer for long.
