muscle atrophy

amanda was theorizing that the aforementioned groups of women who were “admiring” me were merely appreciating someone who was not grossly overweight and out-of-shape. buffalo apparently has a population that is far above average in terms of weight and weight-related conditions like stroke, heart attacks, and diabetes.
one of the thoughts i had during the run was why don’t people in wheelchairs (assuming they are paraplegic or the like) have their legs atrophy? they were many wheelchair bound folk at the park enjoying the weather and zipping around the road that encircles much of the green area… some in those speedy athletic chairs that can really zip about. amanda says that since many people are paralyzed because their brains cannot talk to the muscles, but the muscles can still talk to the spinal cord, so their is still reflex action and general muscle tone type things going on.
my newly learned fact of the day.
